Fletcher is an officer who believes in punishment over rehabilitation. In his view, the prisoners are there to be punished because they committed a crime. He has no interest in why they do it, and believes that they need discipline and to not have their hand held during their time in prison.

Fletcher is introduced in episode one of season one as an officer who doesn't care about the prisoners and is seen supporting Meg in her governorship, Fletcher is later seen in the episode calling for help as Meg is killed in a riot.

Later on Fletcher starts his relationship with Vera Bennett and we later learn he is a survivor of the war as he served in the military and the screams from Bea when hearing that Debbie died reminded him of his days in the army.

As Will, Vera and Fletch stand outside Officer Chris Bakula tells them that he has a "lovely lot for you today" and smiles as Fletch calls him a tosser, Bakula opens the brawler doors and Kat, Jess are first seen as Bakula tells them to get out, Jess gets out first and is shocked to see Wentworth and she is taken inside as Ferguson wonders out and stands next to Vera, Bakula tells Maxine she is next to get out as Fletch just responds with "Jesus" and gives Bakula a look and she walks past Ferguson as the two stare, Fletch tells her to hurry up and get inside as Vera walks over to Bakula and attempts to help Kat who refuses and uses her crutches to get down. Ferguson stares as the brawlers doors close.

In the corridor Fletch tells Maxine to stand at the wall so he can take the ID photo, he tells Maxine to remove her wig and Maxine refuses, Fletch makes an issue of it and Vera says to Fletch they can make an exception in Maxine's case, Fletch agrees and says that if the governor objects to the ID photo, Maxine will have to pay for another one. Maxine has her ID photo taken and so does Kat and Jess.

Vera looks over Kat's x-rays and looks at it and tells her to hurry up. Kat complains that she knows her rights and Vera says that she knows the drill the quicker she does it the quicker they can get out of the room and Kat tells Vera to fuck off. Fletch tells Maxine to go into the strip search room and wait in there, Maxine moves there as Fletch pulls Vera aside and tells her that he isn't going to strip search Maxine. Vera then tells Fletch when has he ever strip searched a female prisoner. Vera then tells Fletch that Maxine wouldn't be in Wentworth if she wasn't post op and tells him that she will be there in a minute to do the search. Maxine looks around as Fletch looks at her.

In the laundry, Fletch tells the women that the new sewing machine is ready to use as Liz is on it, Franky says that the old one is still there and it can't be left there, Fletch says that it is bolted to the table, Franky tells him that it will get in the way. Fletch insults Maxine by calling her 'goldilocks' and tells her to move the table outside, Boomer laughs as Maxine plays Fletch's game and asks if he is addressing her and Fletch snaps back asking if she wanted a written invitation, Liz says that he wouldn't make any of the others move it and Maxine says that if he wants her help he has to 'find some manners', Fletch feigning politeness then asks Maxine again to help move the sewing machine.

Maxine helps Fletch move the table outside and Maxine moves it to where Fletch wants it and then he asks a deeply impersonal question and asks if Maxine actually went through with the operation and Maxine says that Fletch should try it some time as "it does wanders for your complexion". When they both go back inside the laundry, Franky tells Jess that her door is always open and Fletch tells Franky to "pick on someone of her persuasion." Kat then asks if she can have more drugs for her leg as it is killing her and Fletch tells her to get back to work and even tells her that she isn't even in pain she is just drug seeking. Jess looks on and looks at Fletch, enamored by him.

Fletch and Linda are letting inmates through the doors when they all go through, Linda asks Fletch if he has heard about drugs going missing from medical, Fletch asks what type of drugs were taken and Linda tells him that it was tenadol and if there is an overdose to expect seizures. Fletch tells Linda that he think he might know who has taken them, and Linda says good as she walks off.

Rose is in medical as Fletch brings in Kat and says that he believes that Kat is the one who has flogged the medication and he wants an x-ray of the cast. Kat says that Fletch is a psycho and that she hasn't taken anything. Rose says that she will need the inmates consent and Kat says that she wants the whole lot of them reported for harassment, Fletch flies off the handle and says that he is the only one who can see that Kat is a junkie, Will comes in a watches what is going on and orders Rose to get on the phone and make the appointment. Will tells Fletch to settle down and Fletch goes over to him saying that what is he going to do, report him again? Kat and Rose watch on as Fletch reveals to Will that Ferguson had pinged Fletch for leaving the sewing machine in a dangerous place, Will says that he had no idea about that incident and Fletch tells Will that he is too busy pandering to the prisoners to take notice. Fletch is told by Ferguson who is with Vera to go to her office but says that he is busy, Vera reveals that they found the missing meds and it was an inventory error, Ferguson tells Fletch to go with her, Fletch leaves.

Vera tells Fletch that Ferguson is treating him pretty poorly at the moment and Fletch says that it is mostly Will's fault because of all the things that had happened recently like Bea and Simmo missing count to the sewing machine incident, pepper spraying Sky and how he treated Kat. Fletch then asks Vera if she has told Will about him and Meg, Vera says that she hasn't and Fletch says that if Will was to find out he would kill him.

Will furious at what he has just learned, walks out of the security room where Fletch is walking down the hall and he punches him in the face exclaiming that he hoped Meg was worth it.

The next morning in the staff room Will sees Fletch and he closes his locker and slams it closed before walking away. Fletch looks at him as Vera comes into the staff room. Will is on the roof as Liz is behind him and says that she can help calm her down as Liz trusts Sky.

In the unit, Fletch walks past Liz and straight to Boomer who jokes about having a search twice in one week and says she doesn't know why she makes her bed as he says that they found the drop box and Boomer denies knowing anything as Fletch goes into her cell and shakes the pillows bringing them out and takes out the pillow and holds up booze Boomer says it isn't hers as the women look on as Fletch goes back in and brings her mattress out and rips it open to find the drugs, he calls her an idiot and tells her to move, as Liz looks on to the surprise of Doreen.

In the governors office the CCTV footage of Bea making her way into the mail room is being played as Fletch says that he doesn't know how Bea got his swipe card. Ferguson says that she doesn't believe him and says to try again. Fletch says that he found his card on the floor and says that he thought he lost it, Vera says that his card was attached to his belt and Fletch says that he thought he snagged it and didn't realise it had been cut. Ferguson calls him stupid and says the police should be interested to hear about what happened. Fletch tells Ferguson that he did not help Bea escape and Ferguson says that she doesn't believe a word he is saying and Fletch says he didn't do it and asks Vera to back him up, which she doesn't. Ferguson says that she will be launching an official investigation and informing the governor of his new prison about his gross incompetence and says that will hopefully be the end of her career in corrections and to get out of the prison. Fletch leaves the office as Vera says to Ferguson that he is not incompetent and he is a good officer, Ferguson tells Vera that Fletch must give back any of his prison gear before he leaves, Vera nods and leaves.

Vera and Fletch are in a room where Fletch is returning all his officer equipment, Fletch signs off on the form and Vera says that they are done, and Fletch asks if that's it as Vera says yes Fletch dejected says that he doesn't get a proper goodbye and Vera says to him that he knows the way out. Fletch then asks Vera what happened to the old Vera as he liked her better, Vera says that she didn't and Fletch leaves the office with Vera looking on.

As Fletch is leaving Wentworth he walks through the hallways and walks past Chris Bakula who is walking with Kelly Bryant, Bakula says that he will see him tonight for the farewell drinks and Fletch says yes, then realises something. He asks Bakula where Kelly is going and Bakula says that she is being transferred to Barnhurst and Fletch asks why, Bakula replies it is what the paperwork says. Bakula goes to drive off and Fletch gets in the brawler and Bakula says that the brawler isn't a taxi and Fletch tells him to just drive.

As the brawler stops Fletch and Chris Bakula open the door as Fletch tells him to give him five minutes, Bakula closes the door and Fletch tells Kelly that she needs to tell him what she knows about Ferguson and Fletch says that he has contacts at Barnhurst that will keep her safe as Kelly says that Ferguson has contacts as well, Fletch then asks what did she do to her, and he yells at her by saying that he really needs to tell her and he grabs her in which Kelly tells him to look at her, Fletch realises that Kelly is missing an eyelid and Kelly calls him Sherlock. Fletch asks why Ferguson did it and Kelly says that it was to keep her quiet and he asks what for and Kelly reveals that she was the one who caught Ferguson with Jianna. Fletch asks who Jianna is and Kelly says it was the inmate at Blackmoor that Ferguson had fallen for. Kelly then says when Jianna had her baby taken away from her Ferguson had lost it and took it out on the inmates. Fletch asks who took the baby and Kelly says a social worker did and Fletch realises that he knows who the social worker was and then he asked what happened next did Jianna commit suicide? Kelly asks how he would know that and Fletch says that he has heard the story before.

Fletch makes his way to the governors office as Vera is talking with Ferguson and Vera says that the police have spoken with Birdsworth but they haven't gotten anywhere yet. Fletch bursts into the room and he tells Vera to get out and stunned by this she says 'Excuse me?'. Fletch then says what he is about to talk about is private and that the governor should be the only one to hear it, Ferguson tells Vera to leave and says she will deal with it, Vera leaves as Fletch slams the door closed and tells her that the situation is fucked up even for her and says that here he was thinking that she had it in for him but she had it in for Will as well and that it has pretty much always been about Will. Ferguson insults Fletch by calling him unstable and Fletch that that is rich coming from her and says that she had someone break into his house and steal his journal, breaking into Will's house, the texts, and death threats all because Will took the baby away and Fletch says that he knows all about Jianna and what she did to all the inmates, and says that she isn't a governor but a psychopath , Ferguson asks him if he really thinks so and Fletch says that he does and Ferguson says to him that he should carefully consider his next move. Fletch says that Kelly Bryant is his witness and that he is going to go straight to the board and that he will bring her down Fletch leaves. Ferguson walks over to the cabinet and opens it where she gets her phone and she makes a call.

Vera is walking with Fletch and he is telling Vera that Ferguson is playing her and she is playing everyone and he says that Ferguson tortured an inmate into silence and that she isn't right in the head, Vera says that she has heard enough and Fletch says that she hasn't heard anything yet and Vera says that a prisoner used his swipe card just hours before her escape and when he was questioned he came up with a bogus answer and she says that he will be lucky if he isn't charged, Fletch says that he has an eye witness and Vera says back that they have CCTV, Fletch argues more and says it is "chicken shit" compared to what Ferguson has done and Fletch says that the inmate he spoke to said that there was a social worker involved. Vera tells Fletch enough as an officer walks over and Vera tells him to escort Fletch out..Vera walks away as Gary (the officer) is told by Fletch he knows the way out, Fletch storms out of Wentworth into the carpark.
