My informal observation suggests that 6'2" is considered "tall" on this site, and that is the benchmark that people (perhaps subconsciously) judge celebs by. A guy like Perry is not actually that tall. He was undoubtedly boosted by the fact that he was taller than four out of his five castmates on Friends. But really, how many times did Perry actually have to square up to a genuine tallie on that show? The answer is: not very often. But why is it that he struggles to beat Andre Agassi in a flat surface face-off? Why is it that he is a shade under 5'11" Bradley Whitford (even when Perry is military-straight and Whitford is lax)? Why is it that he didn't look significantly taller than 5'10" Richard Schiff during his West Wing stint? Perry's great advantage is his body frame. He might have put on weight over the years, but the guy has narrow shoulders and narrow hips. When he lost all that weight in the second or third season of Friends, he looked like a ghost. He was a walking hat rack. Of course he was going to look tall. At 5'10.5", with a favourable body frame and a cast he could mostly dominate, he was always going to give off the impression he was taller than he actually is. But as soon as you stick the guy among his peers, he just looks like an average joe. If you guys think it is impossible that Schwimmer could beat Perry by 1.5" - 2", get out your measuring tape and see how small that difference actually is, and then come back and tell me it's unfathomable.
