Max Scherzer Baseball Stats | Baseball Almanac

Max Scherzer was born on Friday, July 27, 1984, in St. Louis, Missouri. Scherzer was 23 years old when he broke into the major leagues on April 29, 2008, with the Arizona Diamondbacks. Max Scherzer stats, height, weight, career totals, schools, positions, and more historical research are in the Baseball Almanac. Baseball Almanac Top Quote

"When Max Scherzer won the National League Cy Young Award in November, it marked a significant milestone in his career. Scherzer became a three-time winner of the award, which has historically been a lock for a player's Hall of Fame candidacy. Scherzer became the 10th pitcher to win at least three Cy Young Awards, a decorated list that includes Roger Clemens (seven), Randy Johnson (five), Steve Carlton (four), Greg Maddux (four), Sandy Koufax, Pedro Martinez, Jim Palmer, Tom Seaver and Clayton Kershaw (all with three). That list reads like a who's who for all-time pitching greats, and all of them are in the Hall of Fame except Kershaw, who is still active, and Clemens, who would be a lock if not for his connections to performance-enhancing drugs. 'When you start talking about winning it three times, I can't even comprehend it at this point in time,' Scherzer said after winning the award in November. 'It's such an unbelievable feeling and unbelievable moment, you really won't process it until years later.'" - Collier, Jamal. MLB Staff Writer. Is Scherzer Cooperstown bound? 23 January 2018.

Maxwell M. Scherzer is an active Major League Baseball player with the Texas Rangers (2023-Today), who pitched previously with the Arizona Diamondbacks (2008-2009), Detroit Tigers (2010-2014), Washington Nationals (2015-2021), Los Angeles Dodgers (2021), and New York Mets (2022-2023). Max, during his debut on April 29, 2008, struck out seven batters in his 4.1 innings of relief, one shy of the record for strikeouts by a relief pitcher in their first game! Do you know who had eight? [Answer] More numbers of interest:

2: Max Scherzer threw exactly nine pitches - all nine were strikes - and recorded three outs in the fifth inning, on May 14, 2017, an immaculate inning. A year later, he threw a second immaculate inning, only the third National League pitcher with more than one. Those who came before him were Sandy Koufax and Randy Johnson!

3: Max Scherzer threw a no-hitter on June 20, 2015. Max Scherzer threw a second no-hitter that same year, on October 3, 2015, just the third National League pitcher to tie the Major League record for most no-hitters in a season!

20: Max Scherzer struck out a Major League record twenty batters in a game on May 11, 2016! It was only the second time in National League history where a pitcher recorded twenty strikeouts in a 9-inning game, matching the record set previously by Kerry Wood.

200: Max Scherzer has produced seven consecutive 200-strikeout seasons (2012-2018), three consecutive strikeout titles (2016-2018), and his running strikeout total for the decade (2010-today), is the most by any pitcher in Major League Baseball!

Did you know that only eighteen pitchers in Major League Baseball history have earned a win against all thirty Major League teams? Sportswriter AJ Cassavell once wrote, "Beating one Major League team figures to be difficult enough for a starting pitcher. Beating all 30 of them, however, is nothing short of pitching history." We agree and are pleased to present the I've Beaten Every Major League Team "club" that includes these 18 twirlers: Kevin Brown, A.J. Burnett, Bartolo Colon, Dan Haren, Tim Hudson, Randy Johnson, John Lackey, Al Leiter (who started the "club"), Kyle Lohse, Derek Lowe, Jamie Moyer, Terry Mulholland, Vicente Padilla, Max Scherzer, Curt Schilling, Javier Vazquez, Woody Williams and Barry Zito.

In 2013, Max Scherzer went 21-3, led the American League in wins, and won his first Cy Young Award. In 2016, Scherzer went 20-7, joined the twenty-wins club again - this time in the National League, and won his second Cy Young Award, the sixth pitcher to win a Cy Young in both leagues. In 2017, Scherzer captured his third Cy Young, guaranteeing him a spot in Cooperstown. Agree? Disagree? Tell us on Baseball Fever.
