Part of Medical Assistants Recognition Week, which is held during the third full week of October, Medical Assistants Recognition Day honors and recognizes medical assistants and CMAs (AAMA), and acknowledges their contributions to the delivering of effective healthcare. Designated by the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA), the day is for employers to recognize their employees, but colleagues and patients also show appreciation and recognition for medical assistants on the day.

Medical assistants work alongside physicians, mainly in outpatient or ambulatory care facilities like medical offices and clinics. They perform both administrative and clinical duties. Some administrative duties may include scheduling appointments, welcoming patients, and updating medical records, while some clinical duties may include explaining procedures to patients, drawing blood, and assisting the physician during exams. Medical assistants often work to make patients feel comfortable while in the physician's office and help to explain the physician's instructions to them.

How to Observe Medical Assistants Recognition Day

Employers, colleagues, and patients show recognition and appreciation to and for medical assistants today. Here are a few ideas on how to celebrate the day:

Post on social media, thanking medical assistants and medical assistant students. Include photos from the day or week of celebrations and tag the AAMA in your posts. You could visit the AAMA website for images related to the day to share.
Give medical assistants a gift. You could give them something that will help them be more effective in their job, something that will increase their professionalism and productivity, and something that will bring them long-term benefits. You could also give them a salary increase or bonus, tuition reimbursement, or payment for classes or seminars.
Present medical assistants with a letter that details their contributions to the organization.
Hold a special event with the office staff to recognize the medical assistant team. Invite an AAMA representative to speak.
Hold a special medical assisting training seminar.
Subscribe to CMA Today magazine, or order it for a medical assistant.
Join the American Association of Medical Assistants, or pay for a medical assistant's membership.
