Toledská radní Melissa Burke se musí po jedné nešťastné rodinné události starat o svou neteř a svého synovce. Protože je ale obtížné zvládat profesní život a hlídání i výchovu dětí, najme si chůvu – zkrachovalého obchodníka Joeyho Longa – aby se o ně staral.

Doch sie merkt schnell, dass die Erziehung der beiden sie überfordert. Daher heuert sie den arbeitslosen Joe als männliches Kindermädchen an, um auf die Kinder aufzupassen.

Mel is a local politician from a political family. When a family scandal leaves her niece, Lennox, and nephew, Ryder, without their parents, Mel takes them in. Joe is a former commodities trader left bankrupt after a ponzi scheme who is searching for a job. Just when Mel finds it hard to handle an instant family, her career and her own personal life, she meets and hires Joe to become the family's nanny.

La politique est une histoire de famille pour Mel Burke : son père était un homme politique, et elle-même est devenue élue locale. Quando uno scandalo sconvolge la sua famiglia di politici, a Mel vengono affidati i due nipoti a complicare la sua già impegnata routine quotidiana. Joe invece è un ex intermediario che ha subito una bancarotta in seguito ad uno schema Ponzi e sta cercando lavoro. Mel lo assumerà per diventare il "tato" della famiglia.

Na história de “Melissa & Joey” temos Melissa, filha de um político, que segue a carreira do pai, mas um escândalo leva sua irmã para a cadeia, enquanto seu cunhado desaparece do mapa. Sobraram os sobrinhos, que alguém precisa cuidar enquanto todo mundo sai para o trabalho. É aí que entra o personagem de Joey Lawrence, contratado por Melissa para ser a babá das crianças.

Melissa es una concejal del ayuntamiento que debe hacerse cargo de sus dos sobrinos, porque su madre ha sido encarcelada. Como sus actividades políticas no le permiten atenderlos como es debido, decide contratar a alguien que se ocupe de ellos. Ahí entra en juego Joey, un empresario en bancarrota, abandonado por su novia, que se ofrece a cuidar a los niños a cambio de techo y comida.

梅兒是當地政治世家的第二代，她姊夫因為掏空公司資金而跑路，留下一對姐弟，琳娜和萊德。梅兒便負責照顧這對姊弟。在此同時，喬因為遭到這個梅兒姊夫的龐氏騙局導致破產並失去工作，於是跑到梅兒家裡抗議，並毛遂自薦可以擔任保母工作。[4]梅兒了解自己工作可能無法負擔照顧這對青少年的責任，便答應喬的請求。喬於是成為家庭保母（他雖然比較喜歡自稱自由工作者）。並非完全有血緣關係的四個人，就組成了類似一個家庭的關係，而劇集就圍繞在這四個人的日常生活。
