Introduction

Hello! My name is Khaelt. I’m a high key M+ pusher, top 40 raider, content creator, and Mage coach! I’ve been playing this game since 2017 and have played Mage ever since.

In this guide, I will teach you:

  • How to properly execute Arcane rotation
  • What the best-in-slot gear is
  • Stat priority, best races, and consumables
  • How to properly set up your UI and I’ll give you useful macros, WeakAuras, etc.

Arcane Mage remains the classic high burst offensive spec it was in The War Within and previous expansions. Its main strengths include strong burst damage, high funnel because of Resonance, massive priority target damage, and access to the strongest Mage barrier, Prismatic Barrier.

What has changed

Going into Midnight, Arcane Mage has been significantly simplified, with most Arcane Charge refunder procs such as Intuition and Glorious Incandescence removed. Many other buffs you previously had to track in The War Within, like Arcane Harmony and Arcane Tempo, were also completely removed.

The most important and effectively only buff you now need to track as an Arcane Mage is Arcane Salvo, which functions similarly to the old Arcane Harmony. Each Arcane Missiles wave grants a certain number of Arcane Salvo stacks, stacking up to 20, or 25 if you are Sunfury.

Additionally, Arcane Mage lost its execute talent Arcane Bombardment. Evocation is now an optional talent that only restores mana, and Shifting Power has been removed entirely for all three Mage specs. Altogether, these changes greatly simplify Arcane Mage gameplay, as you no longer need to track a large number of buffs simultaneously.
