Minecraft: How To Tame A Rabbit | The Nerd Stash

This article is over 1 years old and may contain outdated information.

Despite their blocky, low-poly appearance, some Minecraft animals can still look adorable as heck, including little bunny Rabbits. Coming in a variety of colors, these bouncy, bushy-tailed critters make great pets—and meat or leather farms if you have the stomach to kill them. That said, Rabbits in Minecraft can be bred ‘en mass’ if you’re after their feet, hide, or flesh, but you might also be wondering if they can be tamed. I’ll tell you the answer to this and more below.

First off: No, you cannot tame Rabbits in Minecraft. Dangle a carrot in front of the little fluffy bunnies all you want; they will follow you, but that’s as far as their behavior can be manipulated. On the other hand, you can breed the critters using CarrotsGolden Carrots, or Dandelions

For those of you curious whether Golden Carrots have special effects on Rabbits — they do not. Avoid wasting your golden goods on the critters and instead use normal Carrots or Dandelions. All have the same breeding-trigger effect and identical growth boost for Baby Rabbits.

If you don’t have any Carrots or Dandelions but still want to have a Minecraft Rabbit accompany you as if it were tamed, you can always drag it around with a Lead. Leads can be found as chest loot, or you can craft it with slimeballs and string. There’s also the option of murdering a wandering trader for his llamas’ Leads, but I’ll let you be the judge on committing such crimes.

As I said above, Rabbits in Minecraft make adorable pets if you’re a fan of bunnies, but they also can be farmed for their hide, meat, or feet (if you’re “lucky”). Rabbit hide is useful for making leather, while their meat can be cooked into a decent snack or fancy stew if you’re feeling luxurious.

Brewing Potions of Leaping is where a Rabbit foot’s utility lies; these potions let you jump higher and reduce fall damage. Note that the feet have a 10% chance of dropping, so you might need to butcher quite a few bunnies before you get lucky.
