A minimum wage bill introduced last year is still awaiting action taken by the Kansas Legislature. House Bill 2022, introduced by Representative Jim Ward of Wichita, has sat untouched since its introduction on January 14, 2019. The bill was referred to the Committee on Commerce, Labor and Economic Development, but a look at the Kansas Legislature's website shows no action has been taken since.

If passed, the bill would raise the minimum wage in Kansas to $11 in 2020, then $15 an hour by 2021. Workers who receive tips and gratitities would see their pay increase from $2.13 to $3.13 in two years. Kansas currently uses the federal minimum of $7.25 per hour. Numerous states that border Kansas have already started increasing wages, including Missouri, which will eventually move to $12 an hour by 2023.
