Appearance[]

Characteristics[]

Short and slender black mouse, cream face, white spotted dress (of various colors), big bow on her head (formerly a flower hat; in the black-and-white cartoon shorts during the 1920s and 1930s), short white bloomers, large oversized pumps (of various colors/red; in the past), white gloves.

Costume[]

Body[]

Compared to other characters, the body costumes of Mickey and Minnie can be described pretty simply. Minnie wears a blue pantsuit and white gloves. The gloves combine two of the performer's fingers so that the character only appears to have 4 fingers. Her skin is just a layer of black fabric, fitting skin-tight at the performer's arms and legs. Under the big white 4-finger glove, the fabric has a hole where the performers thumb goes to insure that the end of Minnie's skin won't be shown. This fabric transitions into Minnie's big yellow shoes. The character's body is padded, making it a little bit rounder.

Head[]

is huge compared to her other proportions and is a mix between rubber and plastic. The back of her head is covered in black fabric while the front is flesh colored. Her cartoony eyes are made of a sunglass-like layer. This technique allows the person inside the costume to see, while from the outside they are not visible to visitors of Disney parks. Another source of vision is the mouth. Inside the mouth, there is a plastic mesh, allowing the costumed cast member watch where they step. Inside the head, there is a helmet where the performers head goes. There is also a strap that goes on the chin to insure that the head may not fall off

Physical Requirements[]

Audition notices request performers who have “slender to athletic builds.” The reason for this is simple enough, since you must be able to fit into the costume. Additionally, the Cast Members must fall within certain height ranges in order to portray the various characters. Although there are variances from park to park, generally speaking the minimum height to portray a Disney character is 3’ 10” which would allow you to be an Ewok. To be Mickey or Minnie Mouse, or Donald or Daisy Duck, requires the Cast Member to fall within the range of 4’ 8” to 5’ 2.”

Originally Minnie was made to mainly serve as 'arm-candy' for Mickey Mouse. So she didn't have a great deal of personality. For years she played the damsel in distress that he saved. And even today she will still sometimes play that role.

Today Minnie's personality is very sweet and caring. She often plays the mother figure, to her nieces and other children such as Morty and Ferdie. She likes things very well organized. Despite being very a patient person, Minnie is often annoyed by Mickey's irresponsibility, Donald's temper, and Daisy's ego-centrism. She is often shown to shy, and a bit afraid to stand up for herself.

Outfits[]

Minnie is spotted in many different outfits.

Trivia[]

  • Minnie has more known outfits than her boyfriend, Mickey.
  • The pantsuit outfit caused a minor controversy due to terminology errors on initial news articles suggesting that Minnie would wear a pantsuit permanently rather than for a singular event.
