Miraculous is an upcoming superhero film based on Miraculous: Tales of Ladybug & Cat Noir. It will be directed by Jeremy Zag, Chris Columbus and Michael Gracey.

Development[]

The movie was first revealed during a behind-the-scenes YouTube video posted by user Lindalee Rose, who visited ZAG studios in the U.S.[2] The film was later confirmed to be in production during the "Miraculous" panel at Anime Expo 2016.[3]

Jeremy Zag revealed in an interview on August 25, 2016, that the movie was in the scripting stage and that the story of the movie would be based around Ladybug and Cat Noir's origins and how they both fell in love while including more details.[4]

At Los Angeles Comic-Con on October 30, 2016, a poster for the movie was revealed, and a release date of 2019 was announced.[5] Since then, in early 2017, the date was postponed to 2020.[6]

On July 20, 2017, Jeremy Zag revealed that the Miraculous movie is going to be distributed by Lionsgate.[7]

On July 19, 2018, Jeremy Zag started location scouting in Paris, France, for the film setting.[8]

On July 20, 2018, during the Miraculous panel at San Diego Comic-Con 2018, Ezra Weisz revealed that Michael Gracey, the director of The Greatest Showman, was involved in the film.

On December 6, 2018, during CCXP 2018, it was confirmed that the film is no longer in production.[9] However, the film has been replaced with an animated musical film called Ladybug & Cat Noir: The Movie.

On October 16, 2019, during the event at Musée Grévin, it was announced that the live-action film was still in production, filming in Los Angeles, and it would be released in 2021.[10]

On February 27, 2023, Jeremy Zag announced in an Instagram story that the movie was back in production again. However, he deleted the story less than three hours later, which could imply that the announcement wasn't supposed to be made.[11]

On July 3, 2023, during a TikTok interview, Zag stated he's been working with the creators of Netflix's Wednesday, but a live-action film is not in the works.[12]

On August 10, 2023, a behind-the-scenes video for Ladybug & Cat Noir: The Movie indirectly revealed that ZAG is still considering developing the live-action film.[13]

On December 13, 2023, during an interview with Bpifrance, Zag confirmed that the live-action film is still in the works.[14]
