instagram/kylereyesmmaKyle Reyes, who was part of the team at Xtreme Couture in Las Vegas, passed away Monday at the age of 30, a source confirmed to MMA Fighting.
The cause of death is currently unknown, although a GoFundMe page revealed that Reyes was found unresponsive in his room on Saturday night after having reconstructive surgery to repair on torn biceps on his left arm Aug. 27. According to the post, doctors found an infection in his lung, pneumonia causing his right lung to collapse, swelling in his brain due to dangerous oxygen levels, and a fever. As of this past weekend, the 22-fight veteran looked to be progressing in the recovery process, per the fundraising page.
Reyes made his pro debut in 2009 and competed for Pacific X-Treme Combat in Guam for his first eight fights. After a 5-2 start to his career, “BOOM” dropped a unanimous decision to current UFC featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski in October 2014. Reyes went on to win 10 of his next 14 bouts while competing in different organizations, including Tachi PF and ACB.
In addition to his fighting career, Reyes was an integral part of the fight week process, which includes being a corner for current UFC bantamweight Trevin Jones, and current Bellator featherweight Jeremy Kennedy.
Following the news of Reyes’ death, fighters, coaches and teammates sent an outpouring of love and remembrance.
