Where is the Best Place to Stay in Moab?

Choosing the right place to stay in Moab depends on how you want to spend your time. Each area has its own advantages, and knowing the differences can help you pick the perfect home base. These are some of the most popular spots.

  • Downtown Moab – Ideal for first-time visitors who want restaurants, shops, and tour departures within walking distance. Hotels and motels here range from budget-friendly to mid-range, and you’ll be just minutes from Arches National Park.
  • Near Arches National Park – Staying just north of town puts you closest to sunrise hikes, evening stargazing, and quick access to the park entrance. This area is great if you plan to maximize time inside Arches.
  • Along the Colorado River – Scenic lodges and campgrounds line the river east and west of town, offering dramatic canyon views and cooler nights. These spots are especially popular with families and couples seeking a peaceful setting.
  • South of Town (Highway 191 corridor) – Often more affordable and less crowded, this stretch offers a mix of hotels, vacation rentals, and RV parks. It’s a good option for budget-conscious travelers or those who don’t mind a short drive to downtown.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • HOW FAR IS LODGING FROM ARCHES NATIONAL PARK

Most Moab hotels and even downtown campgrounds are just 5–10 minutes from the Arches National Park entrance. This gives you a nice blend of being close to downtown shopping and restaurants while still being just minutes from the park. River lodges and campgrounds along Highway 128 are about 15–20 minutes away, while properties south of town may be closer to 20–30 minutes.

  • DO I NEED TO BOOK MOAB LODGING IN ADVANCE

Yes—especially in spring (March–May) and fall (September–October), which are peak seasons. Rooms and rentals can sell out months in advance, so the earlier you book, the more options you’ll have.

  • WHAT'S THE PRICE RANCE FOR LODGING IN MOAB?

Hotels typically range from $150–$350 per night depending on the season. Vacation rentals and ranch resorts can run higher, while campgrounds and RV parks are usually the most affordable option.

  • ARE THERE PET-FRIENDLY PLACES TO STAY IN MOAB?

Yes—many hotels, vacation rentals, and private campgrounds allow pets. Be sure to check individual property policies and bring plenty of water if you’re hiking with your dog, as desert temperatures can climb quickly.

  • WHAT ARE THE BEST ACCOMMODATIONS FOR FAMILIES IN MOAB?

Families often choose hotels with pools, vacation rentals with kitchens, or campgrounds with space for kids to roam. For a more unique experience, ranch resorts and river lodges offer activities and scenery that kids and parents both enjoy.

  • SHOULD I STAY INSIDE ARCHES OR CANYONLANDS?

There are no traditional hotels inside Arches or Canyonlands. Instead, you’ll find campgrounds within the parks. For more comfort and amenities, most visitors stay in Moab town or along the Colorado River and drive into the parks.

  • HOW DO I GET FROM THE AIRPORT TO MY HOTEL OR VACATION RENTAL?

Moab has a small regional airport (CNY) about 20 minutes north of town. Hotels do not run regular shuttles to and from the airport like you might find in larger cities. Car rentals are available, but should be booked in advance.
