The Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 open beta is coming first to PS4 and PS5

Details about Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2’s open beta have been revealed ahead of an official announcement.

A Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 trailer leaked online earlier today ahead of a major reveal scheduled for later on Tuesday.

A slightly higher quality version of the same leaked trailer (below) has now found its way online via Twitter user @JamieEvans_23, including additional PlayStation marketing at the end of the advert promoting the game’s open beta.

UPDATE: The official version of the trailer, which is viewable below, has now been released as part of a wider Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone 2.0 reveal.

PS4 and PS5 pre-order customers will receive first access to the Modern Warfare 2 open beta.

“Available on PlayStation at least 5 days earlier than any other platform,” the advert says.

You’ll be able to watch the official Modern Warfare 2 reveal here live from 10am PT / 1pm ET / 6pm BST / 7pm CEST.

Activision recently confirmed that the Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 release date is October 28, 2022.

Following the announcement, several Modern Warfare 2 editions, pre-order bonuses and beta details seemingly leaked via an update to Call of Duty Vanguard.

While unofficial, the datamined files suggest Activision plans to release three editions of the game, each of which grants early access to an open beta for PlayStation players when pre-ordered.

They are the Modern Warfare 2 Standard Edition, Cross-Gen Bundle and Vault Edition. The most expensive edition is also said to include the following:

  • Battle Pass (1 Season) + 50 Tier Skips
  • Red Team Operator Pack: Ghost, Soap, Price, Farah
  • FJX Cinder Weapon Vault
  • 10 hours 2XP and 10 hours 2WXP
  • Ghost Legacy Pack: 12 Operator Skins & 10 Weapon Blueprints

Sony and Activision have a long-standing Call of Duty marketing deal which in recent years has seen PlayStation owners receive a range of exclusive content including in-game bundles, exclusive game modes and early access to public tests.

UPDATE: Activision has officially detailed Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 editions. It appears that the PS4 and Xbox One versions of the game may not be available for less than $69.99/£69.99. Currently the cheapest confirmed option for last-gen players is the cross-gen bundle.

ORIGINAL STORY CONTINUES: It was announced in January that Microsoft intends to purchase Activision Blizzard in a $68.7 billion deal that would give the Xbox maker exclusive ownership of franchises including Call of Duty, Warcraft, Overwatch, Crash Bandicoot and Candy Crush.

Should it gain regulatory approval, Microsoft has said it will continue to release Activision Blizzard games, including Call of Duty titles, for PlayStation consoles following the acquisition and beyond existing contractual agreements, and that it wants to make more of the publisher’s games available to Nintendo players too.

      1. PC is Windows by Microsoft. So it’s console peasants on PS that would be putting in Microsofts pockets that would not have done before!!!

  2. MS hasn’t bought Activision yet (that could finalized next year), so as per antitrust rules, MS cannot interfere with Activision’s prior deals

But after MS owns Activision, that would be the end of Sony exclusive deals like this, even with COD remaining multi-platform. In fact, expect the opposite – Xbox will be getting the COD exclusives that PS previously got

  3. No the complete opposite, ms own COD lol so every ps player who buys cod helps ms 😂

  7. “Xbox will have all the exclusives ”

Spider-man, God of War, Uncharted, The Last of Us, Ghost of Tsushima, Death Stranding, Horizon, Wolverine, Returnal, Ratchet and Clank, Final Fantasy?

“including a Netflix for games which ps just can’t do”

Sony literally just launched their new PS Plus service which has better AAA games for a cheaper annual price.

“ps is out the window for the future and PlayStation players can’t admit that”

Xbox fanboys have been saying that since 2001 🤣

“plus ps controllers are made for toddlers right??”

no toddler can comfortably hold a PS controller 🤡
