So my doc confirmed yesterday that I have a yeast infection, and last night I was starting day 1 of Monistat 7. I've used Monistat 3 before (about 8 years ago), more recently the doc just usually gives me a pill. I only get YI's when on antibiotics, which is what happened again.
I followed the directions, right before bed I put the cream in the applicator, put it up there and almost immediately (30 seconds at the most) I felt the most horrible burning firey sensation. There was no way this was normal - it was 100x worse than the yeast. I have some itching - not even what I'd call severe itching most of the time. I waited about 15 minutes trying to tough it out and finally tried to wash it off. The stuff that I got way up there I couldn't get out. After about 3 hours the pain subsided and I was able to fall asleep.
Called the doc today and she basically said they don't like to give PG women the pill. I can either not treat it and deal with the yeast symptoms, which she says will get worse, or try the Monistat again. She thinks it could have been that the pelvic I'd had earlier in the day had irritated my skin and the medication in the Monistat made it worse, but I don't know. That was seriously awful. I'm not even sure I can bring myself to do it again, let alone for 6 more nights.
Has anybody went through this!?

schnauzymomma Posted 02-01-13My dr gave me the pill and a cream for external use. He doesn't recommend otc products while pregnant. That burning doesn't sound good. I wouldn't use it again.- cCARASMOM101 Posted 02-01-13I thought that was normal... I mean, that's what it feels like for me! I dread the cream. It's worse than the itching.

Yes! Oh God, yes! I'm allergic to all things over the counter yeast infection. It completely sucks. I can no longer self treat those bastards, and all I can do is go in to the doc, get it confirmed, and get the antibac pill. And believe me, I tried all of them, even the soothing anti-itch cream. Total and complete misery. I'm so sorry, it really sucks. Especially if they don't want to give you the pill. Blarg.

Lukermama Group OwnerPosted 02-01-13I swear by yogurt. Sounds odd, but to me it works better than the medicated creams.Check it out:http://health.howstuffworks.com/wellness/natural-medicine/home-remedies/home-remedies-for-yeast-infections4.htmOpens a new window- aAtaractic Original PosterPosted 02-01-13
I don't understand why my doc makes it seem like giving PG women those YI pills is horrible and other docs will. I did read something about yogurt elsewhere, and also I read using a diluted apple cider vinegar can help.
Not to pry too much, but when you use the yogurt, do you put it on a tampon, or...?

- wWaddywoodstock Posted 02-01-13Use hermroid wipes when you go to the restroom. I know seems weird but it really works !
*Rach* Posted 02-02-13I too have been itching a tiny bit, but have been eating yogurt daily hoping it works. Not sure I'd do a second treatment of the Monistat if its burning you so bad. Sounds miserable. So sorry!!
Blessed1011 Posted 02-02-13I had the burning too, also wanted to post that after 4 days of treatment I woke up this morning with pink spotting and freaked out! Called doctors office and they said completely normal and to just barely insert the applicator. I am really thinking I am going to quit using it and try yogurt, too stressful!- cChelleCB350 Posted 02-02-13I've had the horrid external burning if a YI has gone awhile. If the skin is irritated it burns horribly. My solutions are as follows: put it in at night while laying down, do NOT get up and put a cloth between your legs to absorb what does come out. Yogurt for the YI & teeny bit of tea tree in olive oil for itch.
