Appearance[]
Normal[]
Montgomery is an animatronic based on an alligator. Just like the Glamrocks, he is designed to have a 1980s glam rock aesthetic. Monty is overall colored in green, with yellow color for the stomach, jaw, some segments for the tail, and spots on his reptilian-textured body and tail. He bears a red mohawk and green-colored suit armor. He has sharp teeth and claws painted in black. His eyelids, a streak-like paint on his muzzle, feet, and hands (excluding the fingers) are also tinted a purple color.
He wears a pair of star-shaped sunglasses, spiked bracelets, purple shoulder guards, and has his own yellow-colored bass with black stripes. Just like all the other Glamrocks, his eyes can be seen glowing red at times.
Shattered[]
In his shattered state, Monty is missing his lower body, instead having a large mess of wires. As well as this, he no longer wears his shades, is missing the majority of his suit on both his arms, and the left side of his face is missing a large chunk. Finally, his shoulder pads are crumbling and his chest has a massive hole in it.
Ruined[]
In RUIN, Monty becomes way more damaged than he was previously, now losing his entire suit, remaining as just an endoskeleton. His endoskeleton holds a mixture of regular and copper metal, with the copper parts making up the front part of his torso, shoulders, and lower-jaw. One of his eyes has become cloudy, while the other is completely missing, and seems to be unable to move. Finally, many of his teeth are now broken in half, and his mohawk is significantly smaller and messier. In the AR-World, Monty appears as a wire-frame like texture, with most of his body being red in color, while the new copper parts are all blue.
Original[]
As implied by the gondola ride in RUIN, Monty had a slightly different appearance before becoming a Glamrock. He lacked the purple gloves and star sunglasses, and his pants were brown shaggy pants instead of the gator-skinned ones he's seen with. Instead of his mohawk, his hair is much longer and wavier. Finally, instead of his orange base, he has a makeshift wooden one with his initials carved into it. While this is depicted as what he originally looked like, it is unclear as to if the animatronic itself held this appearance before becoming a Glamrock.
Personality[]
Montgomery Gator attends with the Glamrock Animatronic band as a bassist. He's the most aggressive animatronic out of the four glamrocks, as he is seen constantly roaring, destroying gates and cannons, and yelling at Gregory. In notes you find, it's stated that after Monty received his new claw upgrades, he began to use them to destroy things such as S.T.A.F.F. Bots, his own room, and gates seen in the lower levels, much to the technicians' annoyance. In Fury's Rage, he is shown to somewhat egotistical, stating that when defeated "How can I lose, I'm so handsome!".
After being shattered, Monty's personality is altered significantly, as he no longer speaks and has become much more animal-like in his behavior. This is mostly prominently seen in RUIN, where Monty has become completely feral in behavior, constantly growling and roaring when persuing the player. Despite these changes in personality, Monty's reckless and destructive nature still carry over, as he's seen constantly running into walls and breaking down doors.
The Gondola ride in RUIN suggests that before he was a Glamrock, Monty was more humble, and even possibly looked up to Bonnie. However, it is unclear if the animatronic actually held this personality before becoming a Glamrock, or if it is an extension to the Gondola ride's fabricated story.
Behavior[]
Security Breach[]
Montgomery's jumpscare.
Montgomery wanders around the Pizzaplex aimlessly until spotting Gregory and charging at him. Monty is much faster than the other two Glamrocks, and cannot be stunned by the Fazer Blaster or the Faz-Cam, as he is wearing sunglasses. When inside Glamrock Freddy, he doesn't notice the player at all, and will continue to wander aimlessly.
To decommission Monty, the player must make their way to the catwalks above Monty Golf and use the turrets to shoot a target whilst avoiding Monty. Once the target's been shot enough times, the player must make their way towards the large target. Once there, a cutscene will play in which Gregory activates a switch, causing the large bucket attached to the target to begin pouring out plastic balls, subsequently destroying the catwalk and causing Monty to fall, shattering him in the process.
In his shattered state, due to losing his legs, he crawls across the ground, and can now be stunned with the Faz-Cam or Fazer Blaster. Shattered Monty can also leap forwards a certain distance, though it'll take him a moment to continue moving again. During the final boss fight, Monty will crawl through the vent above the player's desk, and must be blocked out using the vent door.
RUIN[]
When first encountered in the early parts of the game, Monty's behavior is extremely similar to his shattered state, only he's now slightly faster. Before becoming an actual enemy however, Monty attacks Cassie and shoves her into water, which leads her down into Monty Golf. He later reappears in the Catwalks above Monty Golf where he'll spawn after wearing the mask for too long. After the player leaves the Monty Golf Catwalks, Monty stops being a threat for quite a long portion of the game, until the Beauty Salon, where he can be spawned only after Chica shuts down in the bathrooms. He's encountered again shortly after, underneath Roxy Raceway. In this location, Monty stalks the player under water in a flooded room that the player must navigate by jumping on floating grates and boxes, avoiding falling in the water where Monty lies. The section ends with Cassie activating the door, and subsequently the rest of the power in the room, causing Monty to be electrocuted by a neon sign of Glamrock Bonnie.
Help Wanted 2[]
While not appearing in minigames, Monty appears throughout Help Wanted 2 in various posters, props, and a collectable statue for the in-game gallery. Scrapped animations and data suggest that he, at one point, was planned to be an enemy in the game, possibly in Bonnie Bowl as an old test version of the Bonnie Bowl map features Monty's model loaded in above it. The position of the model may indicate that he would've served a similar role to Moon in the final version, though this is unconfirmed.
History[]
A banner of Monty's old jug band.
Within RUIN, the gondola ride inside Monty Golf reveals Monty's supposed backstory on how he joined the Glamrock band. Monty is shown to be the guitarist of Monty's One Man Jug Band, living out in the swamp who looked up to the Glamrocks, particularly Bonnie. Glamrock Bonnie proceeds to gift Monty his guitar, retiring from the band. Monty is then shown receiving a haircut from Roxanne before being shown in his iconic design from the base game. However, due to the events described in Security Breach, it is likely that the gondola ride's story is fabricated, as Monty was actually made a Glamrock after he had destroyed Glamrock Bonnie.[1]
Speculation[]
It was heavily believed and implied that Monty was the reason behind Glamrock Bonnie's disappearance, destroying him to join the Glamrock band. Eventually, this would be directly confirmed by one of RUIN's level designers to be true, finally confirming that Monty became a Glamrock due to his destruction of Bonnie.[1]
Evidence towards this prior to its confirmation includes the following:
- Bonnie's last known whereabouts to the employees were Monty's Gator Golf, where Monty was stationed before becoming a Glamrock.
- His body being in Bonnie Bowl could imply that Monty hid it to avoid Bonnie from being repaired in Parts and Service.
- Monty is characterized to be very aggressive, and have a distinct distaste for Freddy, wanting to take Freddy's place as the leader of the Glamrocks.
- The latter of this can be seen in a few of the holes of Monty Golf AR-Cade, in which Monty is seen performing with Roxy and Chica, meanwhile Freddy is left in a dumpster off to the side in the final hole, and an earlier hole shows cutouts of the four, with Freddy notably further away from the other three.
- Monty is even the animatronic to replace Freddy in the Getaway Ending.
- The Gondola ride in RUIN showcases a, likely fabricated, story in which Monty originally looked up to Bonnie, and Bonnie passed down his position to Monty.
- In the final bit of the Gondola Ride, Monty is seen creating a tornado with his guitar, in which the tornado not only cuts off the head of a Freddy statue, but also blows a cutout of Bonnie away (although this cutout is not viewable in-game, as it is out-of-bounds).
- Bonnie's body is covered in claw-like marks in both his front and back, suggesting that his killer had to have been someone with claws.
- Notably, the large hole in Bonnie's chest has green paint around it. The depiction of Monty before he was a Glamrock lacked his purple claws, suggesting that the paint from his old hands could have been what caused the green marks on Bonnie's chest.
- This could also explain why Monty needed claws to play the base guitar when Bonnie didn't.
- Notably, the large hole in Bonnie's chest has green paint around it. The depiction of Monty before he was a Glamrock lacked his purple claws, suggesting that the paint from his old hands could have been what caused the green marks on Bonnie's chest.
- In Help Wanted 2, the statue of Glamrock Bonnie is notably in a defensive stance, almost as if he is attempting to keep something or someone away from him.
- In the Bonnie Bowl minigame of Help Wanted 2, the animation for getting a gutter ball showcases a Monty bowling ball crushing the Bonnie one, and taking his place.
- Notably, gutter balls are also the key method of stopping the giant Bonnie head when it becomes a hazard.
An extended theory from this is that Monty also wishes to replace Glamrock Freddy at some point, as he is shown at multiple points to have a distaste for him, most notably in the final hole of Monty Golf where Freddy can be seen in a dumpster.
Trivia[]
General[]
- He is the first animatronic based on a non-avian reptile.
- Monty's real world plushie made by Funko includes the face-paint under his eyes, despite his other Funko products lacking it.
- A fan recreation of Monty Golf was accidentally posted as a promotional piece for National Mini Golf Day. The piece was made by MauMatzi on Twitter/X and was originally posted in the summer of 2021 before the game had released[2]. Steel Wool later took down the post and apologized, replacing the image with one of the Monty Golfy posters found in the game[3].
- Montgomery was possibly considered for FNaF AR, as the CEO of Illumix, Kirin, stated that they planned to add Security Breach characters to the game. This, however, never went through, and none of the Security Breach characters were ever added to the game before it shut down.
Security Breach[]
- Monty's attraction being a golf course is somewhat ironic, as the sport in question requires patience, focus, and a level-head, all traits that Monty appears to lack.
- As revealed through a reddit post before the game's release, Montgomery Gator has his own Golf Course in the Mega Pizzaplex.
- Kirin, the CEO of Illumix, confirmed in her interview with Dawko that they have plans to add the four Glamrock Animatronics to FNaF AR after Security Breach is released.
- Andrew Dayton, the Co-Founder of Steel Wool, has stated that Montgomery was his favorite animatronic.
- Monty's electrocution in RUIN somewhat poetic, as the object that electrocutes him is a neon sign of Glamrock Bonnie, the character he killed.
- A level designer for RUIN even notes this irony in their description of the bossfight.[1]
- It is likely that, just like his guitar, Monty's sunglasses were taken from Bonnie.
- This would make sense, as the glasses are the same color as the guitar, and a drawing of Bonnie in Security Breach depict him with glasses, meanwhile cutouts of Monty's former appearance do not depict him with glasses of any kind.
- The story shown in the Monty Golf gondola ride is likely fabricated, as one of the Dufflebag Messages found in Security Breach notes that Monty only became a member of the Glamrocks after Bonnie went out of commission.[4]
- Shattered Monty's jumpscare references the act of "death rolling", where crocodilians, including alligators, will bite onto their prey and roll over multiple times in an attempt to tear apart their food.
- Other references to Monty's real-world animal inspiration can be seen in RUIN during Monty's encounter where he is seen traversing through the water, much like real alligators.
- When being stunned in his Shattered state, Monty's eyes will frantically rotate around, suggesting his eyes were also damaged when he was shattered despite them still appearing to be normal.
RUIN[]
- Monty's second encounter in RUIN is likely a reference to the Kaernk from the horror game Amnesia.
MauMautzi's art that was posted by Steel Wool.
- When Ruined Monty roars, his inner-endoskeleton jaw can be seen sticking out slightly.
- While gnawing on the metal gate he attempts to crawl through, Monty will stop for a moment to gag, which could suggest that he can actually taste the metal.
- The Gondola Ride in RUIN suggests that before becoming a Glamrock, Monty played in a one-man jug band.
- Despite this, Monty, the one man in question, played a wooden guitar and not a jug.
- Monty can actually jumpscare the player if they wear the mask for too long in Roxy Raceway, just before encountering Roxy.
- Considering this is after he's electrocuted and presumably defeated for good, and he only does this if Roxy hasn't spawned in yet (in which she would be the one to jumpscare the player), it's likely this potential encounter is unintentional.

- ↑ 1.0 1.1 1.2 A RUIN level designer indirectly confirming in their blog that Monty did in fact kill Glamrock Bonnie. "After the player braves the water and does a puzzle while in the water (specifically designed to give the player a panic moment), they're treated to a cinematic where Monty is electrocuted by a neon sign of a character he killed. Players who pay attention to the story can enjoy the irony."
