A fellow survivr holding the Mosin-Nagant
The 3-line Rifle Model 1891, or M1891, known in-game as the Mosin-Nagant (Russian: Винтовка Мосина), is a high-damaging bolt-action Sniper Rifle that uses 7.62mm Ammunition.
Overview
The Mosin-Nagant is an uncommon 7.62mm Sniper Rifle. Like other Snipers, it is extremely accurate with high bullet velocity and damage per bullet. Its heavy recoil can be avoided by quickswitching the Mosin-Nagant with another weapon. Unlike other weapons, the Mosin-Nagant reloads each shot individually if there is still ammo in its magazine, or all 5 bullets at once if it is empty. Basically, it's really annoying, like a SPAS-12 when you reload it.
The Mosin-Nagant can be found rarely as Tier World loot, but is most commonly found in Air Drops or other high tier Crates. A guaranteed Mosin-Nagant can be found in the Tree Cache.

Strategies
Using
- Although the Mosin-Nagant's extremely low fire rate and DPS may seem underwhelming, the high damage and long range makes it viable even in the endgame to pick off players and chunk your opponent's health.
- The Mosin-Nagant is best used at long range. Skilled players can use the Mosin's high single shot damage in a peek- shooting battle, but doing so requires more skill than a Shotgun or automatic weapon.
- Note that the farther a bullet travels, the less damage it does. This is called falloff and is especially prevalent in Sniper Rifles.
- The Mosin-Nagant fares extremely well when paired with another high damage weapon to quickswitch. Pairing it with a shotgun offers high damage at both short and long range with kill cleanup potential from the shotgun.
- A Mosin-Nagant combined with another sniper provides an incredibly powerful quickswitch combo allowing for high burst damage, no movement penalties, and practically outclasses efficacy at range.
- The Mosin-Nagant's high obstacle damage allows it to destroy cover effectively.
- It is usually better to reload all five rounds at once, as the full reload takes only 3 seconds while reloading four individual Mosin-Nagant rounds takes 3.6 seconds.
- The Mosin-Nagant has a powerful synergy with the Perk One In The Chamber. You can constantly refresh the perk's first shot bonuses by repeatedly reloading the Mosin's first bullet after firing. This is especially powerful in Savannah mode, where the first bullet's bonus width will make the mode's signature long range combat significantly easier.
- The Mosin-Nagant is able to peek-shoot effectively from cover to minimize incoming damage and maximize outgoing damage.
- Mosin users should lead their shots (predict where the target is moving and shoot there) instead of shooting where the target currently is to maximize the chances of hitting. This is especially true against opponents who have good movement, high adrenaline, or are far away.
Countering
- Strafe and move erratically with high Adrenaline to avoid getting hit.
- The low DPS of the Mosin-Nagant means that it is usually beaten by a high DPS weapon at mid-range.
- Because the Mosin-Nagant has immense recoil after firing, dodging a shot gives the player a window to attack the vulnerable shooter.
- The SV-98 outclasses the Mosin-Nagant in every aspect, making it a great counter weapon.
- Ambushing the Mosin-Nagant user with a high damaging shotgun or SMG will allow the player to get in close range, rendering the Mosin-Nagant useless due to its large barrel.
- Note that at close range, falloff is much less noticeable and as such the player will take more damage.

Trivia
- The Mosin-Nagant was the first Sniper Rifle added to the game.
- The Mosin-Nagant can still be used in the Woods Map and any variant of it even though it is a Sniper Rifle—not an LMG or Shotgun—due to the Tree Cache still spawning in the map.
- The Mosin-Nagant formerly had the highest damage per shot of all weapons except Shotguns and was the only bolt-action sniper rifle in the game until the "Log and load" update, when the SV-98 was introduced.
- One inconsistency is when drawing the Mosin-Nagant, the player can sometimes hear the bolt cycled. This is normal for other guns to indicate that the user have drawn the weapon. However, brass ejection can also be heard, meaning that the player is technically ejecting an unspent round whenever they pull out the rifle. This is not reflected in-game.
- The Mosin-Nagant's image ID was previously "Enfield," which is a British-made bolt action Sniper Rifle. The image was previously also based on an Enfield rifle. This suggests that the Enfield was intended to be in the game but was cut in favor of the Mosin-Nagant.
- The image of the Mosin-Nagant was changed in the "Log and load" update to look like an actual Mosin-Nagant. As well as that, the image name was also changed to "Mosin."
- In real life, the Mosin-Nagant is a bolt-action rifle that was invented in Russia in 1891. It uses the 7.62×54mmR cartridge, the same cartridge used by the DP-28 and most early Soviet weapons and was used by Russian snipers in World War 2. It is a very old gun; however, it remains in use today with irregular forces and collectors.
- If the enemy is low on health and shot with the Mosin-Nagant, the bullet will go through the enemy. Despite the bullet visually traveling through enemies, the bullet will do 0 damage after that, making collateral kills with the bullet impossible.
- The Mosin-Nagant is the second oldest real-life gun in surviv.io, assuming it is the 1891 version. This would make it predate even the Model 94. The oldest would be the Peacemaker.
- Some players affectionately nickname the Mosin-Nagant "Moist Nugget".
- The old image of the Mosin-Nagant looked similar to the M870's image.
- It is the first (and currently the only) weapon in the game to have two different reload times, with partial reload loading rounds individually, similarly to tubular-magazine shotguns. In contrast, all five rounds are loaded once on a full reload.
- This is possible with the use of stripper clips (also called charger clips), which are rounds held together with a piece of metal. This makes reloading old sniper rifles easier to reload as many old bolt-action rifles produced in the 1880s-1930s have internal magazines built into the rifle. The drawback is that optics cannot be used unless they are designed not to block the receiver, as any optics may block the receiver space needed to load stripper clips.
- The Mosin-Nagant's fire delay is the highest out of all weapons.
- The Mosin-Nagant once used to only deal 64 damage.
- Some of the most famous military snipers (i.e., Simo Hayha, Vasily Zaytsev, etc.) used the Mosin-Nagant.
- The Mosin-Nagant was originally two separate guns, one designed by Sergei Mosin and the other by Émile Nagant, and were eventually combined into a single design, hence the shared name of the rifle. The creator of Mosin-Nagant is Captain Sergei Mosin. Leon Nagant lost the competition to create the Russian Army's new rifle, but he filed a legal dispute claiming that the rifle used his patents. The rifle was dubbed the "Mosin-Nagant" by Western literature, even though no details borrowed from Nagant's rifle were essential for firing. The Russians called it "Mosin's rifle".
