What Is Moss and What Does It Do in Minecraft

Moss is a unique block in Minecraft because it'll spread out and create more when it touches specific blocks in-game. Moss, over time, will make most blocks look like it's been untouched for some time and give them an exotic feel. Below are all the block's moss effects.

• Andesite
• Cave Vines
• Coarse Dirt
• Deepslate
• Diorite
• Dirt
• Granite
• Grass Block
• Mud
• Mycelium
• Podzol
• Polished Diorite (Bedrock Only)
• Polished Granite (Bedrock Only)
• Rooted Dirt
• Stone
• Tuff

There's also a chance moss will grow if you add Bone Meal on any of these blocks if there is air above them.

• Azalea (10%)
• Flowering Azalea (5%)
• Grass (50%)
• Moss Carpet (25%)
• Tall Grass (10%)

Where to Find Moss

Moss only spawns naturally in one biome. Below you'll see where you can find it.

There's also a 42.1% chance that you can find 1-4 Moss blocks in a supply chest on a Shipwreck on Java and Bedrock.
