What Is Baja Blast Made Of?

This teal-colored spin on the classic soda features the addition of “tropical lime” flavor. Created for a special partnership with Taco Bell, Baja Blast quickly became a customer favorite.

In fact, Mountain Dew Baja Blast was the second most popular soda sold at the fast food restaurant a decade after it was introduced!

The name was inspired by the Mexican state of Baja, which is known for its countless beaches. Both companies felt that it was a perfect pairing for the Tex-Mex-inspired food that Taco Bell serves.

Taco Bell Baja Blast Ingredient Notes and Swaps

  • Mountain Dew – Nothing fancy here! Stick with the classic green bottle for this Baja Blast recipe.
  • Sprite – I find that this creates the best flavor, but any clear lemon-lime soda will do. 7-Up or Sierra Mist are great alternatives, while other recipes use regular lemonade instead.
  • Powerade – Through trial and error, it seems like Berry Blue Powerade gets the flavor closest to the popular drink. Some say that Cool Blue Gatorade is a better match, so give that a try if your homemade Mountain Dew Baja Blast doesn’t taste quite right.

You can also make this into a Mtn Dew Baja Blast Zero sugar drink by using zero sugar sodas and gatorade.

How To Make A Baja Blast

Simply combine equal parts of each ingredient in a tall glass with ice.

Give it a stir and get to sipping — it’s that easy!

Want to make a freeze?

Cool down in hotter weather with a slushie version of the Taco Bell Baja Blast — just like you can get at the drive-thru! A Baja blast freeze is simple and easy to make. It’s great for a New Year celebration and fun, too. (you can also add alcoholic beverages to this version for an adult slushy!)

Simply add everything to a blender with a handful of ice and puree until you get the perfect consistency. Be sure that the bottled drinks are nice and cold first to get the best results.

Baja Blast Recipe FAQ

What goes with Mountain Dew Baja Blast?

Don’t skimp out on the Sprite if you want that blast of tropical lime flavor.

Is there an alcoholic version of a Taco Bell Baja Blast?

You can certainly make your own! There’s no shortage of additions that would taste great with this drink.Plain or citrus-flavored vodka and even coconut rum would be wonderful.
