Myrtle Beach Black Bike Week Is On For May 2022 - MyrtleBeachSC

In December, the town of Atlantic Beach approved a final reading of operational procedures for the May 2022 Atlantic Beach Memorial Day Black Pearl Cultural Heritage and Bike Festival, which is commonly referred to by participants as Myrtle Beach Black Bike Week.

Vendor hours are scheduled to run from 3 p.m. to 2 a.m. on May 27, from 9 a.m. to 2 a.m. on May 28 and 29, and from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on May 30.

Atlantic Beach Town Manager Benjamin Quattlebaum said the town is monitoring the latest COVID-19 variant and will make modifications to Myrtle Beach Black Bike Week moving forward if things escalate from a health and safety standpoint.

Quattlebaum recommended that certain events with bigger crowds, like stage shows, be eliminated because of health concerns.

After being sued by the NAACP, the City of Myrtle Beach chose to hire a diversity chief this past week. The City of Myrtle Beach hired Kelvin Waites as the organization’s director of diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI).Waites brings a wealth of community knowledge and know-how to this new position. Kelvin (pronounced Kevin) has more than 24 years of law enforcement experience in both Horry and Georgetown Counties, culminating as chief of the Georgetown Police Department. He also is a military veteran, serving four years in the US Army.

Over 350,000 black bike enthusiasts have participated over the 4 day weekend attending past Myrtle Beach Black Bike week events.
