Sooner or later you can no longer ignore it... The dreaded nail outgrowth that appears a couple of weeks after getting your artificial nails done. But fear not! By getting a nail refill, the space between the cuticles and artificial nails is refilled to have your nails looking pretty as a picture again.

When to get a nail refill? That all depends on how fast your nails grow. Your natural nails grow about 0,1 mm per day, so after 2 to 4 weeks the space between the artificial nail and the cuticle will be quite big. To prevent nail breakage or cracks it's important to have your nails refilled regularly to have them looking perfect again.

What to expect from a nail refill?

Your nail stylist will desinfect your nails. Using either a file with a coarse grit or a mechanical device, the top coat (just the top bit!) of the artificial nails will be gently removed for better adhesion. With a manicure tool your cuticles will be pushed back. Your nail plate will be roughened up or treated with a primer to prep your nails for the gel of acrylic refill. When the nails have been cured under the UV light (if you have gel nails, that is), then it's time for the finishing touch! Your nails will be polished so they look super shiny. Some cuticle oil and voilà!

Good to know

• A refill shouldn't take longer than a treatment for a new set of nails. A refill treatment takes up about 60 minutes of your time.
• Never ever peel off the acrylic or gel nails! By doing so, you risk pulling off the upper layer of your nail plate too, as acrylic and gel nails have great adhesive power. Have your nails professionally removed by a trained nail therapist.
• Acrylic nails and aceton don't go together well. Aceton is disastrous for acrylics as it will cause it to dissolve.
