Arguments can be made for the Byakugan and Rinnegan being more powerful than the kekkei genkai of the Uchiha, but the prominence of the Sharingan and its suite of abilities ensure that it stands out as an incredible dojutsu that is the coolest of the lot by far. An Uchiha with an awakened Sharingan who witnesses the death of a close friend or family member awakens the Mangekyo Sharingan's abilities and unleashes a world of pain on their opponents.

28 Genjutsu

The Power To Cast A Heightened Illusion

While a very basic ability, the Mangekyo Sharingan also offers the ability to cast Genjutsu. Of course, given that the Mangekyo Sharingan is stronger than the regular Sharingan, the Genjutsu that one can cast using the Mangekyo Sharingan is much stronger than the regular one.

An Ability Used By Shin Uchiha

The Object Manipulation Technique was used by Shin Uchiha, who appeared after the story of Naruto wrapped up. Shin Uchiha was created by none other than Orochimaru and he made his appearance in the one-shot manga, Naruto Gaiden. Shin was a powerful user of the Sharingan and he had somehow managed to evolve this eye to attain the Mangekyo.

As with the vast majority of these eyes, Shin also had unique abilities up his sleeve. He could use the Object Manipulation Technique which allowed him to place a mark on any object that he could and then freely manipulate them telekinetically for as long as he wanted. He was seen leaving this mark on Sasuke's sword and then stabbing Naruto with it. Later on, in the fight against Sakura, he was able to injure her severely using this object manipulation technique.

26 Hinokagutsuchi

The Power to Manipulate the Kagutsuchi

Hinokagutsuchi is an ability that only appeared in the Naruto anime. Fans got to witness this power during the fight between the two brothers, Indra and Asura Otsutsuki. This ability was used by none other than Indra Otsutsuki through his Mangekyou Sharingan. As the name suggests, it allows him to manipulate the power of Kagutsuchi, which many fans are already aware of.

It is very similar in application to Sasuke Uchiha's Amaterasu. How exactly it differs isn't known, however, it can be assumed that this technique allows him to manipulate the shape and size of the flames of Amaterasu freely, making it a better version of the said technique. That said, it didn't hold up well in combat against his brother, Asura Otsutsuki, and was put out rather quickly.

The Amaterasu is one of the first few powers of the Mangekyo Sharingan that the fans witnessed in the Naruto series. It was first used by Itachi Uchiha and this ability allowed him to create inextinguishable black flames to attack his enemies with.

The flames of Amaterasu are said to be so powerful that they burn as hot as the sun itself. What's more, these flames can only be extinguished once the target is completely incinerated, which just goes to show its power. Sasuke Uchiha is a user of this power as well.

Used by Sasuke Uchiha, Blaze Release: Honoikazuchi is an anime-only Mangekyo Sharingan ability that he used in the fight against Naruto Uzumaki. By surrounding himself in the black flames of Amaterasu, Sasuke created massive spikes that skewer all those around him.

He can further make this technique stronger by pulling his enemies towards him using the Rinnegan's Bansho Ten'in. Although Naruto survived its usage, this technique is certainly very overpowered.

According to Itachi Uchiha, this ability is one of the very best that the Susano'o offers from a distance. Its powers are great enough to cause colossal damage and, what's more, it could even destroy a Chibaku Tensei when combined with Naruto's Rasenshuriken and Killer Bee's Tailed Beast Ball.

The Susanoo is the trump card of the Mangekyo Sharingan. However, not every Susanoo is the same. When first manifested, is merely a skeletal structure and it gradually grows stronger.
