Naruto: Things You Didn't Know About Madara - Screen Rant

Madara Uchiha plays a prominent role in the Naruto franchise as the foremost antagonist. His traits throughout the series are that of someone who has a giant ego, causing him clash with Hashirama Senju’s reasoning and sensibility repeatedly.

However, it wasn’t just Hashirama whom he clashed with-- his manipulative and egocentric personality would eventually lead to him disagreeing with his own clan members, especially after he co-founded the village of Konohagakure (the Village Hidden in Leaves).

Despite being a prodigy, Madara didn’t start out his life at odds with everyone around him. He was born during a time filled with war and it was all he had ever known. Death was a way of life, and power kept you alive longer than those around you. The power that Madara would draw on for strength to deal with the world he was born into would eventually take over any innocence that was once a part of him.

Madara is known for having some of the best evil quotes out of all the villains from Naruto. These famous lines would permanently etch Madara into the Naruto universe as one of the best evil characters in the series. Quotes such as “Man seeks peace, yet at the same time yearning for war. Thinking of peace whilst spilling blood is something only human could do. They’re two sides of the same coin,”sum up who Madara really is.

From dreams of peace as a child to the war of all wars, here are the 15 Things You Didn’t Know About Naruto's Madara.

15. He Was The Master Of 10 Nature Transformations

There are five fundamental nature transformations in Naruto — fire, wind, lightning, earth, and fire. Combining two or more of these transformations together at the same time results in new elemental properties and transformations that wouldn’t exist on their own. There is also Yin Release, which is based on spiritual energy, and Yang Release, which is based on vitality and physical energy.

Madara mastered all five standard nature transformations, along with Yin Release, Yang Release, Yin-Yang, Storm Release, and Wood Release. He spent years mastering the Wood Release, using the DNA he stole from Hashirama Senju.

Madara was a shinobi prodigy and one of the most talented fighters in history. Of the Uchiha Clan, he is recognized as one of its strongest members. He was also born with powerful chakra, described as evil, and could tap into it while fighting for up to 24 hours straight.

14. He Used Demonic Statue of the Outer Path As A Life Source

The Demonic Statue of the Outer Path (外道魔像) is the hollowed body of the Ten-Tailed Beast. It only answers those who possess the Rinnegan. Madara used this idol to keep him alive, making him the only person in Naruto to use the Demonic Statue of the Outer Path in this manner.

Nagato tried to tap into the statue like Madara did, but it nearly killed him. This was most likely because Madara tapped into the flower and not the idol itself.

Madara had three stems protruding from his back that entered into the flower stem that the statue sits on. The flower acted as a base and fed off the statue. He used it to not only extend his life so he could complete his training with Obito, but also as a vessel to harvest Hashirama's DNA while also creating plant-like humanoids from it.

13. He Was Technically The First Hokage

The Senju Clan and the Uchiha Clan were natural enemies of one another. Madara became the leader of Uchiha, while Hashirama led the Senju Clan.

After being defeated by Hashirama several times, Madara finally accepted his offer for a truce. They created a village that would be a symbol of this peace that Madara named Konohagakure, the Village Hidden. Hashirama also appointed Madara as the First Hokage of Konohagakure (Lord of Konoha).

Tobirama, however, was against Madara being Hokage, so he proposed that the First Hokage be decided by a vote. Hashirama, being the stronger of the two and more popular amongst both clans, was voted in as First Hokage.

Incidentally, this would be the only time that a vote was taken after a recommendation was given. It should also be noted that all Seven Hokage in Naruto, can be traced back to Hashirama Senju in some manner.

12. He Was First Full Blood Human Uchiha To Awaken Rinnegan

The Rinnegan, or Saṃsāra Eye, was first manifested by Hagoromo Ōtsutsuki. His was a Rinnegan that was a kekkei mōra, which is classified as a jutsu unique to Kaguya Ōtsutsuki and her direct bloodline.

Madara was able to obtain the Rinnegan only after infusing himself with Hashirama's DNA. This would be the first time in history that a Rinnegan would appear outside of Kaguya Ōtsutsuki’s direct blood line.

The only downfall to Madara’s Rinnegan was that he didn’t have full access to the original’s abilities. Naturally the Rinnegan can be transplanted into another’s eyes, like any dōjutsu.

Madara implanted both of his eyes in Nagato when he was young without his knowledge, which he took full advantage of because of his Senju lineage. After Nagato's death, Obito Uchiha took the Rinnegan.

11. He Didn’t Create The Zetsus

Zetsu watches all

Madara used the Demonic Statue of the Outer Path to harvest Hashirama's DNA and create humanoids from it, bringing the Zetsu to life. Madara assumed that these Zetsus were created by him, but it would later be revealed that all the Zetsus were actually humans who had been merged with the God Tree.

The Zetsus were originally victims of Kaguya Ōtsutsuki's Infinite Tsukuyomi, who were tethered to the God Tree over the course of years and were stored within the Demonic Statue of the Outer Path.

Black Zetsu would pull White Zetsu and other victims from the husk of the statue after Madara had summoned and cultivated it with Hashirama Senju's DNA. The naivety of Madara thinking that he had created the Zetsus would lead to his downfall after his resurrection.

10. He Was The Only Character To Detect Shadow Clones

Madara was unique in the Naruto series since he awakened his Sharingan while still a child, with one tomoe in both eyes. By the time he was approaching adulthood, Madara could use the Sharingan better than any of the other members in the Uchiha clan.

In the Naruto series as a whole, he would be the only individual who could detect shadow or wood clones (specifically when used by Naruto and Hashirama).

Madara could place targets under genjutsu and paralyze them with the briefest of eye contact. His Sharingan even had the ability to trap the Nine-Tails Beast. Madara showed his full power of it when he programed one of his eyes to activate Izanagi after his death, allowing him to alter reality and resurrect himself.

9. He Loved To Fight More Than Anything Else

Madara's favorite phrase is “armor-sleeved single hit” (鎧袖一触). In other words, he loved to destroy his opponent with a single killing blow. Killing gave Madara joy and purpose.

He loved the taste of his own blood, along with the sights and sounds of the battlefield. You could almost say that fighting was his addiction— it satisfied him, but left him craving more.

What Madara didn’t expect and hated about being resurrected was that he couldn’t fully experience the thrill of battle. Despite being so in tune with the sensory part of fighting, he always remained disciplined.

You wouldn’t know he was upset about not fully experiencing battle after reincarnation because he wouldn’t show it. Madara was all about obtaining victory at any cost and this meant not letting failed plans or obstacles get in his way.

Madara is one of the strongest members of the Uchiha Clan, which would lead you to think that fire was his element of choice. However, in truth, Madara hated fire, and felt that wind fit his personality and style more appropriately.

This doesn’t mean that he never used fire, though. In fact, he would often combine fire and wind together. Madara did whatever he needed to in order to be victorious even if that meant using an element he disliked, such as fire.

In the anime, Madara often produced giant walls of flame that took several water users to put out. He would also combine wind to create a moving fire wall or project dragon-shaped fireballs at his opponents. It should also be noted that Madara wasn’t afraid to use the other elements, as he often combined them as whenever he needed.

7. He’s Not Listed As A Senjutsu User Despite His Use Of The Six Paths

Despite popular claims, Madara is technically not listed as a user of senjutsu in the fourth Naruto databook. Most assume that he is because he’s a user of the Six Paths Senjutsu.

He’s also known for using sage art Yin Release Lightning Dispatch, along with Storm Release Light Fang. For the Naruto manga lovers, both were depicted in white (even in the color manga). While in the anime, Yin Release Lightning Dispatch is shown in purple.

Perhaps Madara isn’t listed as a senjutsu user because he stole the ability of being able to use the Six Paths Senjutsu from Hashirama's DNA. Unfortuantely, the fourth data book doesn’t go into any detail as to why Madara is listed the way he is.

Madara is most often recognized with using the Six Paths Ten-Tails Coffin Seal technique.

6. He Wasn’t Totally Evil

Though he loved the taste of his own blood and its noted several times that his chakra itself can be seen as evil, Madara himself wasn’t a bad person — he just let circumstances in life lead him down an evil path.

A few notable good qualities about Madara that many fans might not know about would be that he viewed men and women equally. He never looked down on a woman in battle and would fight them as he would a man. In his mind, the only difference between the two was that a woman could give birth, which didn't cause any differences on the battlefield.

Madara was also frugal with his money. Power and money usually go together, but not for Madara. He often enjoyed items that were cheaper and was never known to buy anything extravagant.
