National Puppy Day is today (March 23, 2021), and the day has turned into a holiday of sort for dog owners.

According to NationalToday.com, it’s a day that’s meant to raise awareness about the dangers of puppy mills and to get people to consider adoption instead.

National Puppy Day was founded in 2006 by author Colleen Paige. Paige says the day should be spent around four-legged roommates, pampering and spoiling them with tasty treats.

As a result, many retailers -- from Amazon.com to Petco -- have rolled out special sales on dog items. There’s still plenty of time to order them online.
