Netflix's Army Of The Dead 2: Release Date, Cast And Plot

If, like us, you got somewhat obsessed with Netflix's zombie action film Army of the Dead, we've got good news for you. Not only is the sequel confirmed but the streamer has also released the title of the upcoming project, Planet of the Dead. If the first film is anything to go by, this is going to be huge. Here's everything we know about Planet of the Dead.

What's Planet of the Dead going to be about?

It's actually pretty hard to call at this point, since Army of the Dead left us with so many cliffhangers. When we left off, a lot of the crew were dead and Vanderohe (Omari Hardwick) was on a flight to Mexico City with some of the money when he discovered he'd been bitten. So, we can pretty safely say we'll be picking up with that storyline in Planet of the Dead.

Plus, during a recent interview director Zack Snyder teased some major details about the sequel, also confirming that time loop theory that fans have been speculating about.

"I'm a huge fan of this mythological understory," he told Games Radar. "All your time loop fun that you can have, there's a lot of cool enhancements that are baked in now," he explained, adding, "I can't wait to make the sequel to Army of the Dead, so that we can see how then all of those things manifest."

Who's starring in Planet of the Dead?

Again, thanks to the fact that most of the crew ended up dead at the end of the first film, it's hard to say. Of the main cast only Vanderohe and Kate (Ella Purnell) were left alive, so we can be pretty sure they'll be back for the sequel. However, as many fans have pointed out, there are several of the main crew that could still be alive, since we didn't actually see their deaths or bodies. We love a surprise return.

When is Planet of the Dead being released?

Not soon enough is our honest answer. But the actual answer is that it's likely to be sometime in late 2023, due to the fact that Snyder is reportedly set to work on his other Netflix project first; a Star Wars-inspired movie titled Rebel Moon, which is due to go into production in early 2022. Once Snyder has completed that project, he will then move onto Planet of the Dead, so it will be some time before we have a confirmed release date.

In the meantime, Army of the Dead and the prequel film Army of Thieves are available to watch on Netflix now.
