New World: How To Change Servers (& Keep Your Character)

The release of Amazon’s MMO, New World, suffered a few bumps along the road due to the long queue times that drew many player complaints. However, as of patch 1.03, every account has received one free server transfer token, to change to a server that might best fit their needs. These transfers are restricted to the same region as of now but will allow players to change one of their characters to any server they wish for free.
According to New World’s developers, free transfers will take place before paid ones are enabled. This means that players should choose the character they transfer, and where they transfer it to, very carefully. Not only will it be the only one that is free, but it might also be the only one available for the foreseeable future, as Amazon intends to wait for the initial migration rush to end before shipping paid transfers.

Players wanting to select a server with a healthy population might want to hold out on transferring too early. New World’s player base has declined to almost half of its peak, meaning that many crowded worlds that suffered from long queues now allow for a much better experience, and lower population worlds might be suffering from a lack of players. Since most people will likely use the free transfers expediently, server populations might take a while to stabilize.
How to Change Servers in New World
Purchasing the transfer token requires players to be logged into the character they wish to transfer. Additionally, the character must leave their Company in New World if they are in one, and remove any Trading Post orders that are pending. Finally, the character must be located in a Sanctuary, such as a settlement or an outpost.
To change servers, players must click Esc and select the Store tab. A new option will be at the bottom of the list called “World Transfer”. Click on it and then click the “Purchase” button. This will open up the list of possible worlds. Keep in mind that characters cannot be transferred to a world if it is full, in maintenance or the player already has a character in it.
Characters will keep all of their progressions, such as levels, titles, and weapon masteries. Additionally, all inventory and storage space, including currency and houses will also transfer. New World's territory standings will also carry over, but players should keep in mind that territories will most likely be owned by different factions. Finally, the friend list will not transfer with the character, since it is specific to the server.
