TrendingChicago Bears vs Los Angeles Rams: Winners and losers from Divisional Weekend
The Chicago Bears got some good news on Monday when it was announced that quarterback Mitch Trubisky will participate in this year's Pro Bowl. Trubisky was named the replacement for Los Angeles Rams quarterback Jared Goff. Goff and the Rams defeated the New Orleans Saints on Sunday to advance to Super Bowl LIII. Trubisky becomes the first Bears quarterback named to the Pro Bowl since Jim McMahon earned that honor for the 1985 season.
Trubisky threw for 3,223 yards with 24 touchdowns, 12 interceptions and a quarterback rating of 95.4. He completed 66.6 percent of his passes and ended the year with 421 rushing yards with three rushing touchdowns on 68 carries.
The three quarterbacks originally voted into the Pro Bowl were Goff, New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees and Aaron Rodgers of the Green Bay Packers. Rodgers opted out of the game due to an injury and was replaced by Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson. Brees also turned down the invitation and was replaced by Dallas Cowboys signal-caller Dak Prescott. Former Bears star and 2018 Pro Football Hall of Fame inductee, Brian Urlacher, will serve as the Legends Captain for the NFC roster.
Voting for the Pro Bowl is an inexact science and some were not happy to see Trubisky get the nod after an above average second season in the NFL. Scroll below to see some of the reactions from around the league for Trubisky earning his Pro Bowl honor.

The Athletic's Kevin Fishbain kept note of how many major outlets graded Ryan Pace's draft in 2017. That draft included Trubisky in the first round, tight end Adam Shaheen in the second round, safety Eddie Jackson and running back Tarik Cohen in the fourth round and offensive lineman Jordan Morgan in the fifth round. Three of those players, Trubisky, Jackson and Cohen, have now been named Pro Bowlers. Pace was criticized heavily for that draft, but after two years it certainly looks like he knew what he was doing.

The Bears posted a hype video for Trubisky on their social media accounts not long after announcing he would be appearing in this year's Pro Bowl. The video has plenty of highlights from Trubisky's breakout 2018 campaign. Included in the video is his impressive performance against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 4, against the Detroit Lions in Week 10 and Chicago's victory over the Packers in Week 15 to claim the NFC North title.

The Bears broke the news with this graphic above on their social media accounts. Simply stating "See ya in Orlando, #10!" Trubisky was taken second overall in the 2017 NFL Draft and struggled at times as a rookie. Even though some could question if he was truly worthy of going to the Pro Bowl this year, the fact that he was named to the game shows the respect for him around the league is starting to grow. The game could be a confidence boost for the young signal-caller as he heads into Year 3 in 2019.
SLIDE4 of 10The 2017 Draft was a good one
Three of the Bears' six 2018 Pro Bowlers were selected in the 2017 draft: Mitchell Trubisky at No. 2 in the first round, and Eddie Jackson at No. 112 and Tarik Cohen at No. 119 in the fourth round.
— Larry Mayer (@LarryMayer) January 21, 2019
Larry Mayer of ChicagoBears.com points out how well general manager Ryan Pace did in the 2017 NFL Draft. First, he traded up to take Trubisky second overall before snagging a pair of stars in the fourth round in Tarik Cohen and Eddie Jackson. Not only were Cohen and Jackson named to the Pro Bowl for their 2018 efforts, but both players were also named first-team All-Pros. Cohen was selected as a return man and Jackson was selected as a free safety.
SLIDE5 of 10Tarik Cohen hopes Trubisky gets him the ball
@Mtrubisky10 make sure i get the ball a lil bit ???? happy to have you there wit me ??????
— Tarik Cohen (@TarikCohen) January 21, 2019
Teammate Tarik Cohen asked Trubisky to be sure to get him the ball in Sunday's game. Cohen was named to the Pro Bowl as a return man, but he will also see some action on the field on offense. He tweeted above that he is happy Trubisky will be joining him in Orlando for the game on Sunday. Cohen finished the regular season by gaining 444 yards on the ground on 99 carries with three touchdowns. He also caught 71 passes for 725 yards and caught five touchdowns.
SLIDE6 of 10Following the Rams template
The #Bears are following the Rams template to a T: Last year Jared Goff replaced Super Bowl-bound QB Carson Wentz on the Pro Bowl roster. Now Trubisky is replacing Goff. So next year ... https://t.co/VhQ8Q0dqu8
— Mark Potash (@MarkPotash) January 21, 2019
Mark Potash of the Chicago Sun-Times pointed out the Bears are following the template that the Los Angeles Rams have laid out. He noted that Goff replaced Carson Wentz as the Eagles were Super Bowl bound last year. Trubisky is now replacing Goff, who is Super Bowl bound this year. Many have noted the Bears and Rams have been on similar paths as of late. Chicago hired their young, up-and-coming coach in Matt Nagy, just like the Rams did with Sean McVay. Trubisky is excelling under his new head coach, just like Goff.
SLIDE7 of 10Sherrick McManis gave him some props
Congrats Brothaman! RT @ChicagoBears: .@Mtrubisky10 becomes sixth Bears player named to NFC #ProBowl roster, 1st Bears QB since McMahon.??: https://t.co/G0PDIKpISn pic.twitter.com/0uensQgOCf
— Sherrick (@SherrickM) January 21, 2019
Veteran cornerback Sherrick McManis was quick to give Trubisky some praise for getting named to the Pro Bowl.
McManis is the longest-tenured member of the Bears. He was drafted by the Houston Texans in 2010 and traded to the Bears in 2012. He finished off the 2018 season with 26 tackles, one sack, four pass deflections and his first interception since his rookie season. He became a pivotal part of Chicago's defense down the stretch after Bryce Callahan was lost for the season with a foot injury in early December.
SLIDE8 of 10Deon Bush also gave him credit
Money Mitch! https://t.co/wnCXQTI6d6
— Deon Bush (@deonbushlive2) January 21, 2019
Deon Bush was another member of the Bears to congratulate Trubisky on his Pro Bowl nod.
Bush took over as the starting strong safety for the Bears late in the season following an injury to Pro Bowler Eddie Jackson. He finished the regular season with eight tackles, one sack and one forced fumble. He recorded three tackles in Chicago's playoff loss to the Philadelphia Eagles in the Wild Card round.
SLIDE9 of 10Trubisky over Matt Ryan?
Surprised to see Mitch Trubisky over Matt Ryan to replace Jared Goff in Pro Bowl but oh well.
— vaughn mcclure (@vxmcclure23) January 21, 2019
Former Bears beat reporter, now Falcons reporter, Vaughn McClure noted he is surprised Trubisky got the nod over Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan.
Ryan finished the 2018 campaign having thrown for 4,924 yards with 35 touchdowns, seven interceptions and a quarterback rating of 108.1. It is entirely possible that Ryan declined an invitation to go to the Pro Bowl, freeing up the chance for Trubisky to go. Ryan is a four-time Pro Bowler, one-time All-Pro (2016) and won the NFL's Most Valuable Player award for his efforts in 2016.

Surprised to see Mitch Trubisky over Matt Ryan to replace Jared Goff in Pro Bowl but oh well.
— vaughn mcclure (@vxmcclure23) January 21, 2019
The quarterback position has never been kind to the Bears. The Chicago Audible pointed out the previous 36 quarterbacks since Jim McMahon's Pro Bowl nod. Some of the "greats" on that list include the likes of Peter Tom Willis, Rick Mirer, Steve Stenstrom, Rex Grossman, Jay Cutler and Chad Hutchinson. There is no way of knowing if Trubisky is going to be the long-term answer for the Bears at the quarterback position, but he has certainly put himself in a better place than many on the list before him.
