Color TV-Game 6 is the first console of the Color TV-Game Series and the first console that released by Nintendo in Japan in 1977 with ¥9,800 as initial price. Nintendo didn't have the know-how at that time, so the company collaborated with Mitsubishi Electronics to manufacture the console. Color TV-Game 6 was a commercial success, selling more than 1 million units, making itself the starting point of Nintendo domination in the consoles market and making space for the next consoles to come. Color TV-Game 6 success relied mainly on the low price of the console that gave a serious advantage comparing to the competition.

The console had two knobs as controllers and allowed two players game play. The only game was Light Tennis, a pong like game that had 6 modes (like additional paddles, decreasing the size of the paddles, adding deflective shields in the center of the screen) and this is the reason for the naming of the console.

The console can be powered up by batteries or an AC adapter that sold separately. There are two other versions released by Nintendo, one that had cream-white outer casing and one for promotional reasons that is considered extremely rare due to the limited units that were produced. The promotion was made for the food company House Foods to promote their House Shanmen instant noodles and the console is identical to the original, but has the House Shanmen logo on the casing.
