Obi-Wan's Duel With Vader Reflects His Duel With Ahsoka

The season finale of Obi-Wan Kenobi contained more than its fair share of Easter Eggs from across the Star Wars timeline. From the inclusion of the Hello There meme or Obi-Wan’s classic fighting stance, we got more than a few blasts from the past. But one of these connections brought us back to another heartbreaking moment.

In Star Wars: Rebels one of the best fight scenes that we see is Ahsoka Tano’s fight against Darth Vader a massive display of Ahsoka’s acrobatic ability. The apprentice fights the master and manages to crave away a sliver of his helmet revealing that Darth Vader is her long-lost master. This symbolism is mirrored in Obi-Wan Kenobi as we see the master fighting his apprentice. As Obi-Wan slowly regains his connection to the force we see an incredible duel between the two where Vader’s mask is once again sliced away from his face.

In both of these scenes, we get to see Anakin’s closest friends respond to what they see as the death of their friend. Both had strong suspicions that Vader was in fact their friend, with Obi-Wan probably knowing more than Ahsoka. But at the end of both fights, we see the brokenheartedness of both Ahsoka and Obi-Wan as they see the damage done to Vader. One of the best effects in Star Wars so far is the mixing of voices, whether it be Hayden Christensen, Matt Lanter, or James Earl Junior we get to see the mixing of Anakin and Vader’s voice which surely has to remind our heroes of their good memories together.

While we do see a good amount of similarities the results are a bit different. While Vader does survive both fights, we see Obi-Wan walk away with minimal injuries while Ahsoka had to be saved by Ezra from the World Between Worlds. It seems that the apprentices have not yet progressed further than their masters.
