Nursing CEU Ohio Requirements (RN, LPN)

The Ohio Board of Nursing requires Registered Nurses (RNs) and Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs) to complete 24 contact hours of continuing education during each two-year renewal period. Among these, at least one contact hour must focus on Chapter 4723 of the Ohio Nurse Practice Code and Rules (Category A).

For licensure by endorsement, RNs and LPNs must complete two contact hours specifically related to Chapter 4723 and the Boards rules (Category A).

What are the nursing CE requirements in the state of Ohio?

Beyond an initial renewal period where nurses are exempt from completing CEs for their first license renewal following NCLEX examination, Ohio nurses are required to fulfill at least 24 contact hours of CE, including at least one contact hour of Category A CE, for each subsequent renewal. Nurses licensed in Ohio through reciprocity for one year or less before their first renewal are only required to complete 12 contact hours.
