There are several boss battles for you to fight in Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin. These eventually lead up to the final boss Oltura. On this page, you'll find detailed information on Oltura's weaknesses, as well as an explanation of the attacks and phases you can expect to come up against in the final battle.

Oltura

Oltura is an Elder Dragon that you will fight in the Forbidden Grounds in Hakolo Island. The Monsterpedia describes Oltura as:

"From the pit in the Forbidden Grounds of Hakolo Island emerged the cradle of destruction - Oltura. When the reborn wings of this constantly evolving foe all become illuminated, a terrible power will be unleashed."

This provides a good summary of how the boss battle with Oltura will go. There fight occurs in phases, with Oltura evolving throughout, producing wings that should be the main area you target as soon as the option becomes available.

How to Prepare for the Fight Against Oltura

In the final boss battle against Oltura, you'll need to have plenty of healing items on you. Oltura will unleash devastating attacks during the fight, that will do significant damage to all members of your team. Be sure to stock up on plenty of Mega Potions and items that will replenish the health of all your team, including Lifepowder and Dust of Life. If you have some Vital Essence, this is also handy to refill any lost hearts.

If you complete one of the Subquests called A Test of Purr-severance you'll unlock the recipe for crafting Vital Essence and receive some.

Take a range of Monsties in with you that have the highest HP and cover all of the attack types, so you can perform joint attacks with as many of the them as possible throughout the fight.

Oltura's Weaknesses

In the Monsterpedia, you can find a breakdown of each of Oltura's parts and what they are weak to.

Oltura's Attacks and Phases During the Fight

As the fight with Oltura begins, the Monster will opt for Technical Attacks. Be sure to use Power Attacks here and a Monstie that does the same, for added bonus. You'll want to repeat this until Oltura becomes enraged. When this happens, the Monster will switch the Power Attacks, so you'll want to switch to Speed Attacks and a Monstie who performs Speed Attacks.

It won't be long before Oltura evolves and its wings appear. As soon as this happens, you want to target the wings and break them. Use slashing or piercing moves to do this quickly. Also keep an eye on your Kinship Gauge and try to use it at the same time as Kyle for a more powerful attack. During this phase of the fight, Oltura will stick to using Power Attacks or be charging its power.

The second time that Oltura evolves and its wings appear, its moves will also change. Now, Oltura will be using Speed Attacks so be sure to swap to Technical Attacks to have a chance at winning those Head-to-Heads. Keep attacking in this manner until Oltura falls.

The Second Battle

Oltura will rise again after you've taken it down the first time. It will unleash an attack that will drop everyone's health down to 1 HP to bring out the healing items to replenish your team's health. Oltura will revert back to using Technical Attacks here so keep throwing out Power Attacks until Oltura evolves again.

This time, the Left Ray Wing and Right Ray Wing will appear. As before, target the wings and break them to weaken Oltura. Keep attacking until Oltura falls again.

The Third Fight

Oltura will get up one more time during the last phase of this boss battle, and come back even stronger. In this section, you want to unleash your most powerful attacks as quickly as possible before Oltura deals a powerful blow with Luminosity. If your Kinship Gauge is full, now is the time to use it.

You should also check to see how many hearts you and your team have, if you're down to just one, use some Vital Essence to help you get through this section. Luminosity will take out the entire time, so the more powerful attacks you can get in during those first turns, the more chance you have of surviving and defeating Oltura.

Keep repeating the powerful attacks and Oltura should be finished in no time.
