One Piece: 10 Characters Who Can Rival Whitebeard, Ranked By ...

Edward Newgate, also known as Whitebeard, was one of the strongest known characters in the world of One Piece. He served as one of the Yonko of the Sea and was the captain of the Legendary Whitebeard Pirates. Known as the Strongest Man in the World, Whitebeard wielded the tremendous power of the Paramecia type Gura Gura no Mi.

His power was such that even the strongest of characters in the world of One Piece, such as Gol D. Roger, couldn't beat him. Whitebeard's powers could be rivaled by just a few characters in the world of One Piece and we've made a list of all of them.

10 Blackbeard

Blackbeard is one of the Yonko of the Sea in One Piece and a feared pirate in the New World. He is the captain of the Blackbeard Pirates and has tremendous power and influence.

He wields two Devil Fruits, both known to be the strongest of their type, the Paramecia type Gura Gura no Mi, that allows him to summon quakes at will, and the Logia type Yami Yami no Mi, that allows him to control darkness. Blackbeard's skills are incredible but he is likely the weakest of all the current Yonko. Nonetheless, he's strong enough to fight against Whitebeard.

9 Sengoku

The former Fleet Admiral of the Marines, Sengoku is an incredibly powerful person who is known as a user of all the three Haki types. His strength is such that he could fight against the likes of Roger in the past, which makes him one of the strongest One Piece characters to ever exist.

Sengoku wields the Mythical Zoan type Hito Hito no Mi, Model: Daibutsu that allows him to transform into a giant Buddha at will. Using its powers, Sengoku can generate tremendous shockwaves that can even rival the quakes of the Gura Gura no Mi.

8 Shanks

Shanks is one of the Yonko of the Sea in the current story and he joined their ranks about 6 years prior to the current timeline of the One Piece anime. Despite having only one arm, Shanks is powerful enough to fight on equal footing against any other character in the series, such as other Yonko, or an Admiral of the Navy.

Shanks doesn't possess any Devil Fruit ability that we know of. Instead, he seems to be completely reliant on his Haki powers, which is what makes him so special. When he met Whitebeard, it was evident he rivaled the other pirate's power.

7 Big Mom

Charlotte Linlin, also known as Big Mom, is one of the Emperors of the Sea in the world of One Piece. She is the Captain of the Big Mom Pirates and rules over Totland with great authority.

Her power is so extraordinary that she could kill a giant even when she was just 5 years old, which is mind-boggling. As an adult, Big Mom is more than capable of defeating anyone who stands in her way. She even managed to fight Kaido on equal footing, despite not being at 100%, which shows she's not one to be underestimated.

6 Kaido

Kaido, also known as the Strongest Creature in the World of One Piece, is the captain of the Animal Kingdom Pirates and the ruler of Wano Country, currently. As one of the Yonko, Kaido possesses mighty strength that few can ever hope to match.

Kaido's cruelty as a pirate knows no bounds which is part of what makes him so dangerous. What's more, Kaido's biggest known strength is his inability to die. In fact, he can't even kill himself and attempting suicide has become his hobby. While he wasn't stronger than Whitebeard, he could certainly rival him, as a Yonko.

5 Monkey D. Garp

Monkey D. Garp, also known as the Hero of the Marines, is an incredibly powerful character in the world of One Piece. As a rival to Gol D. Roger, Garp cements his place as one of the strongest in the entire series.

He was even partly responsible for taking down Rocks D. Xebec, which makes him more interesting than he already was. Garp's strength was such that he destroyed 8 mountains with his bare fists while warming up to take down Don Chinjao, a pirate he went on to defeat with just one punch. Undoubtedly, his power is comparable to Whitebeard's.

4 Kozuki Oden

Oden was the son of Kozuki Sukiyaki, the former Shogun of Wano Country. He served as the Daimyō of Kuri region of Wano and was supposed to rule Wano after his father. Like many others in the series, Oden was born as a monster, meaning his strength was almost limitless.

His powers were such that he was able to clash against the likes of Whitebeard and Roger back in the day. He went on to return to Wano several times stronger than he was when he left. In his fight against Kaido, Oden proved to be the superior fighter and he nearly killed him, losing only because of a deception from Kaido's minions.

3 Shiki

One of the former members of the Rocks Pirates, Shiki is a tremendously fearsome character in Oda's story. He was a rival to Whitebeard and Gol D. Roger and commanded the largest fleet on the Grand Line back during his age.

After Gol D. Roger's capture, Shiki fought against Garp and Sengoku alone and managed to destroy half of Marineford, also inflicting injuries on Garp. As a pirate, he was ruthless and rivaled even the strongest of the pirates.

2 Rocks D. Xebec

Rocks was one of the most fearsome pirates in the world of One Piece, ruling the world alone before the Great Age of Pirates even began. His aim was to become the King of the World. Pursuing this goal, he actively opposed the World Government.

According to Sengoku, he was the fiercest rival of Roger. He clashed with a special force at God Valley nearly 40 years before the current storyline of One Piece and it was there Rocks was defeated by the combined efforts of the Navy, led by Garp and the Roger Pirates.

1 Gol D. Roger

Roger is arguably the greatest pirate that the One Piece world has ever seen. His sense of adventure is what led him to finding out the truth of the world and reaching the Final Island, Laugh Tale.

Roger was incredibly powerful and the only known person to have ever matched him in combat was none other than Whitebeard himself. In terms of strength, Roger was a true equal to Whitebeard and his biggest rival ever.
