Warning: contains major spoilers for One Piece chapters 1019 and 1020!
The manga One Piece is known for its zany characters that gain special powers from eating devil fruit. Chapter 1019: "Heliceratops", introduces the newest devil fruit transformation. Yamato's alternate form has been revealed. In Chapter 1020: "Robin vs. Black Maria", more details are revealed about what this transformation entails.
Yamato, the son of Kaido, is the latest to ingest devil fruit. This fruit gives those who eat it special abilities, depending on the fruit. The series' main character, Luffy, is a rubber man able to stretch thanks to the Gum-Gum Fruit. There are three types of fruit and Kaido ate a Mythical Zoan fruit. It is confirmed that Yamato has eaten the same kind. This fruit type allows a person to transform into an animal with a mythical ability. Yamato's form had been hinted at previously, but now a full look at it has been shown.

One Piece Chapter 1019 continues the battle at Onigashima - the home of the Beast Pirates - in the Wano Country arc. Sasaki and Franky are still fighting, while the tensions between Kaido and Yamato are increasing. In Chapter 996, Yamato was seen with fangs in an encounter with Sasaki. Now, the full transformation has finally been revealed twenty-three chapters later. Like his father, Kaido, Yamato can transform into a mythical beast. Instead of a dragon, he becomes a wolf. However, standard rules still apply, so while he has gained a new ability and new forms (wolf and human-wolf hybrid), he has also lost the ability to swim.
Kaido and Yamato have been seen having a tense relationship, which is likely to just become even more exacerbated as the story progresses. The two have been fighting on the roof of the Skull Dome and with this new transformation, this battle is just getting started. After all, Kaido and Yamato have dreams that they are both rather set on and Yamato may have interfered with his father's without fully meaning to. Kaido has been wanting to continue growing his crew of people who have eaten Devil Fruit. Now, he has one less fruit at his disposal - all because his son was hungry, not realizing what he had eaten until it was too late. However, this has also increased Yamato's ability to reach one of his dreams: being like his idol, Oden, and making a better future for Wano Country.
The fruit Yamato ate was the Dog-Dog Fruit, "model Okuchi-no-Makami". Kaido remarks on the wolf being the "guardian of Wano Country," which is fitting considering the passion that One Piece's young wolf feels for the country and its warriors. Ironically, Yamato's father does want him to rule over the nation, but the two differ on the best way to do it. Kaido wants his son to maintain the way the land is, while Yamato wants to free Wano and open it up. This can be attributed to the forced imprisonment that Yamato has felt at the hands of his father.

In this raging battle, the Oden imitator uses a Namuji Glacier Fang attack, which is matched explosively to Kaido's Blast Breath. This fight will continue to rage little by little as new chapters arrive, but Yamato might finally be able to find freedom not just for himself, but for the country - even though it may mean partially sacrificing his dream of seeing the world thanks to his inability to swim. If the world can come to Wano Country, however, One Piece may see another dream realized.
