What are Open Record Request?

  • Open Record Requests are for information that is available to the general public to comport with the state’s public policy of open government.
  • Examples of good open records requests would be:
    • for copies of contracts between DDS and vendors
    • annual reports (most are already accessible via the DDS Reports section of the website)
    • a copy of the agency budget for a particular fiscal year
    • agency emails/correspondence related to a particular issue
  • Requests for anything that would require an individual’s driving record to be accessed would not fall under Open Records. Georgia’s Open Records Act can be found at OCGA 50-18-70 et seq.
  • For customer protection and privacy, Motor Vehicle Records (MVRs), and the information contained therein, are not subject to release under the Open Records Act. See O.C.G.A. § 40-5-2 (b).

Instructions for requesting a Driving History Report (MVR):

  • For Individuals or Persons/Entities Authorized by the Subject Individual

    • Please visit Driving History Report (MVR) for more information.
  • For Attorneys/Law Offices, Public Officials, and Persons/Entities Not Authorized by the Subject Individual

    • A subpoena or court order would need to be served to DDS Legal- 2201 Eastview Parkway Conyers, GA 30013 with the applicable fee.
    • If you are requesting records in addition to or in place of the motor vehicle report, please ensure your subpoena or court order includes a specific list of the documents needed and await receipt of an invoice. Records will not be released until payment is made.
    • Note: Fees are waived for state and federal entities.
