Ozark: Why is Ozark so blue?
While the non-stop drama has been the main talking point of the past three seasons, another element of Ozark which has caught the viewers' attention is the colouring of the show.Fans have been commenting on how dark the show is, with every episode having an unexplained blue tint.No matter what the scene is, whether it is inside a house or in the bright sunshine, Ozark has a dark blue edge in every scene.According to the show's Director of Photography, this is very much a purposeful decision.

Ozark: Is Ben really dead? Did Navarro capture Ben?
Ozark's Director of Photography Ben Kutchins spoke to Decider in 2018 about the show's look and said he took inspiration from Director David Fincher's Australian crime drama Animal Kingdom and Gordon Willis' Klute which are both dark lighted films. He said: “I think both Jason Bateman and I wanted to do something that was unique and unique to Ozark that created a distinct look."From the beginning we really [tried to make bold choices], and I think it stood out in the way that we tell stories, the way that we color correct the episodes, the way that we move the camera, and the way that the camera relates to the characters.”

Ozark season 2 cast: Who is Lisa Emery? Who plays Darlene Snell?
Kutchin explained the lighting is meant to symbolise the dark world the Byrde family has got themselves into, with shadows creeping around every corner.Kutchin uses "practical and single-source lights whenever possible" and "an in-camera cyan tilt" so the show receives colour correction in post-production to get the effect the team behind Ozark wanted.Kutchin added: “My hope was that the audience would really like lean forward into it and be looking around the frame to see what’s lurking in the shadows."I want the audience to be engaged and to draw them in.“There are movies and shows where you really have to shut off your devices and shut off your brain and really have to lean in. I’m happy that Ozark is one of those.”Ozark season 3 is available to watch on Netflix.
