What is Paint & Sip at Paint for Fun?
Paint and Sip is a step-by-step creative painting class, so no experience is needed.
Our classes are easy to follow. They’re designed to be enjoyable, socially interactive, and memorable. And the best bit? You can do it with a glass of wine or beer in hand!
You’ll be guided step by step through your selected artwork by one of our experienced art instructors.
Our studio in Port Melbourne is set up for BYO food and drinks, including beer and wine. With a great soundtrack, expert instruction and a few words of encouragement, you’ll move closer to releasing your inner artist!
What if I can't even draw stick figures?
Well, you’re in luck because no one leaves with paintings containing stick figures!
You will leave with your amazing masterpiece, inspired and feeling accomplished!
Our classes are designed for first-time painters, and our talented and enthusiastic teachers will walk you through every step to help you create your own work of art.
How long do your Sip and Paint events typically last?
Each session lasts between two-and-a-half and three hours. Your paint and sip class duration is specified below each session on our events calendar, which you can find here.
We usually begin painting about 15 minutes after the session starts. There may be a few ‘drying breaks’ during the session where you can get up for a stretch, a dance, or to admire your fellow artists’ paintings.
What time should I arrive?
The studio doors will open 5-10mins before your session starts to allow our teachers enough time to set the space up for you!
Your session start time is shown on our event page and tax invoice you receive after booking with us. Typically, painting starts 10-15 minutes after this time, allowing you to check in with our artists, grab your apron, pour your glass of liquid creativity and settle into your spot.
What happens if I am running late?
Our sessions begin within 10-15 minutes of the start time. However, if you are running late, we will make sure you are all caught up and help you throughout the session.
How much does a public paint session cost?
Sessions held at our Port Melbourne Studio range from $59pp to $65pp depending on the session. Prices differ for events, such as Paint Your Pet (longer session) and art classes for children (shorter event).
What is included in the cost of the paint and sip session?
The price per seat includes everything you’ll need to create your masterpiece (except whatever you’ll be drinking or snacking on).
We’ll supply you with all the necessary equipment for creating your masterpiece, including:
- A blank canvas – 40 x 50cm or slightly smaller (for the Paint Your Dog Session or Kids Class)
- Acrylic paints
- Brushes
- Table easel
- Paint for Fun apron and
- Cheeseboards, cutlery and Glassware for your BYO food and drinks!
- for classes using clay and watercolour, we’ll supply all the equipment necessary!
All sessions include guidance from one of our fun & experienced artists to assist you in releasing your inner artist. The only thing you’ll need to bring is your favourite beverage, some nibbles and your imagination. We have glassware for your BYO drinks, a fridge with cold tap water, and a self-serve tea bar.

If I come with a friend will we be sitting together?
We will always do our best to ensure that groups are placed together.

Can I bring along someone who won’t be painting?

Assistance Dogs and other animals
Animals are strictly not permitted entry into our studios with the exception of “Paint your dog” class and an assistance dog as legislated by Federal Law through the Disability Discrimination Act 1992. To ensure that the Guest and their assistance dog is seated appropriately and with comfort, the Guest must notify US prior to their session by calling us on 0401 534 356 or emailing us.
What do I wear to a night at Paint for Fun?
Though we provide aprons to protect your clothes from paint, it’s best to wear something you don’t mind the idea of getting a little bit of paint on – accidents do happen!
We provide coat racks for you to hang anything away from the paint. Bonus points if you dress to the theme of your event or wear white & neon in our Glow in the Dark class!
Can the paint be removed easily on clothing?
Our paint is non toxic and water based, making it easy to remove from the skin.
Paint for Fun does not take responsibility for any damage to clothes due to paint stains. We provide wet wipes or detergent for immediate removal.
If you do happen to get some paint on your clothes, here are some helpful tips for removing it:
If wet, remove as much paint as possible while avoiding pressing the paint into the material. Flush the area with water and dab with a cloth, but don’t wipe. Mix up a 50/50 solution of water and detergent and gently work at the stain using a sponge. Launder in the washing machine as normal.
If dry, scrape off the bulk of the paint and use a stiff brush to work out some of the finer paint particles. Soak the area in a 50/50 solution of water and detergent for 20 minutes. Gently work at the stain using a sponge and launder as normal.
Always be sure to test a new removal method in an inconspicuous area first, and follow the manufacturer’s care instructions on your garments.
How old do I need to be to attend a session?
All evening sessions are open to artists 12 and up. Artists under 18 years old must be accompanied by a paying adult. For weekend and midday sessions we have no age limits.
We are a licensed and BYO studio, so alcohol will be served in all classes besides our Kids’ classes. Our family-friendly classes will have a mix of adults and children, and alcohol will also be permitted. Our Teachers will enforce RSA standards.
Please note: You can only leave your child alone in a class if it is specifically for children. All Paint and Sip classes are designed for adults — children cannot be left unattended.
Can we BYO our own nibbles or food?
Absolutely! We strongly encourage everyone to have a little food to eat while they Paint and Sip! Bring yourself some nibbles, but keep in mind that we have limited space at your tables, so leave the kitchen sink at home!
I don’t drink wine. Can I bring other types of drinks?
Of course. You are welcome to bring beer, cider, kombucha, soft drink, tea, coffee, or any other beverage that tickles your fancy.
Is there a fridge?
Yes, each of our Paint for Fun studios has a fridge to keep drinks cold! You are more than welcome to bring a bag of ice for our ice bucket or an esky.
ALCOHOL
Can I purchase any alcohol at Paint for Fun?
We are currently in the process of launching a new in-studio bar and we can’t wait to sell you your beverages on-premise. Keep in mind we are still a BYO venue where you can bring any drinks that tickle your fancy, alcoholic or not!
If you happen to forget, we are a short walk from a bottleshop, and Ubereats deliver to our studios, too!
Catering
Can I have food and drink delivered to the studio?
Yes! You can have anything from pizza to wine delivered to our studio during your class via Ubereats or Menulog.
Will my session ever be cancelled?
In the rare event that a public session is cancelled, we’ll notify the ticket purchaser via email or text message no later than 24 hours prior to their session scheduled start time.
Ticket purchasers will be offered the option to reschedule for another upcoming session or receive a full refund of their purchase.
PAINTING
Do we have to copy the host’s artwork exactly?
Absolutely not! We pride ourselves on that exact point of difference. Our teachers encourage individuality in each of our guests, by choosing your preferred colour palette or freedom to change the composition. No two paintings will be the same as another!
Can I take my painting home with me?
For Sure! By the end of the session, your not going to want to part with your masterpiece! We have hairdryers to ensure they will be dry for you to take home.
Can I leave my painting behind and collect later?
If you are unable to take your painting with you after the session, you may leave it in our studio and collect it within 14 days. Simply drop in during office hours. Due to spatial limitations, unclaimed paintings left for longer than two weeks will be recycled. Please be sure to return for your painting to avoid disappointment!
Do you have Couples Classes?
Yes, we do. All of our classes can be enjoyed as a couple! But our favourite is “Painting Partners.” You will be guided through a portrait painting class, and you will be amazed at how much your painting turns out looking just like them! Everyone’s painting will be uniquely different!
What happens if I don’t finish my painting? Our teachers will ensure you do.
ACCESSIBILITY AND AMENITIES
I have a companion that requires special assistance. What amenities do you have?
Accessibility and amenities for guests with wheelchairs and other disabilities vary from studio to studio.
We have three studios: two downstairs, which are both wheelchair accessible, and one upstairs, which is not. If you require wheelchair access, please let us know so we can ensure you are placed in the correct studio.
GIFT VOUCHERS
Can I purchase a gift voucher for Paint for Fun?
Check out our Gift Voucher page for more information. We provide vouchers for one person, two people or a custom amount of your choice.
We don’t provide physical Gift Cards, but vouchers are emailed to either the purchaser or the recipient at a time and date of your choosing. All gift cards are valid for 3 years from time of purchase.
PARKING
Whether you’re coming by car or public transport, we’ve got a few options to make your to and from as easy as possible!
What is the closest public transport?
We are a 3-minute walk from our nearest tram stop! Catch the 109 from the city, or check for your bus route along Bay St Port Melbourne.
Where is the closest public parking?
There is loads of free street parking opposite our studio as well in the surrounding streets. Be sure to check signage.
