Pam And Tommy has finally dropped its first two episodes, and there is one very large talking point that has got fans gossiping.

In episode two, titled ‘I Love You, Tommy’, Pamela Anderson (played by Lily James) and Tommy Lee (Sebastian Stan) consummate their sudden marriage with a whole lot of sex. And in doing so, we’re introduced to the character of Tommy Lee's penis. Yes, it's a character.

In a drug-fuelled haze, Tommy has a full-on conversation with his pride and joy, with his penis even warning him about falling for Pamela too quickly. It even reels off the famous women the Mötley Crüe rockstar had been with before the Baywatch babe.

But lovestruck Tommy quietens his inner voice by asserting that Pamela is different.

Little did either of them know what was about to come, with a sex tape of Pam and Tommy’s honeymoon being unleashed to the world months later.

The scene, as bizarre as it sounds, is actually inspired by the real Tommy Lee, who in his autobiography Tommyland explained he would often have chats with his member while high.

Both he and Anderson declined to be involved in Pam And Tommy.

Speaking to Variety, the cast and creators have made no secret of the fact that shooting the scenes were awkward, but for actor Sebastian, he found himself having to make his own kind of peace with the penis.

"By the end of it, I treated it like it was an intimate buddy conversation that one might have when they're falling in love," he explained.

According to the show's writer, Robert Siegel, Hulu had some reservations about the inclusion of the full-frontal scenes, but the producers ultimately pushed to have it featured in the show. Hulu relented, and that's how the scenes came to pass.

After all, why not? Television makes all kinds of allowances to show women's bodies on screen, so why not the men's as well?

Is Sebastian Stan’s penis real in Pam and Tommy?

Hate to be the bearer of bad news, folks – but no, the penis is not real.

In fact, the appendage, voiced by The Good Place's Jason Mantzoukas, is an animatronic device with clear plastic straps that the actor wore like a pair of pants. Which is far less sexy.

Four puppeteers were in charge of controlling the prop.

It's kind of obvious when it starts moving and talking to him throughout the episode, but you can be forgiven for questioning it, considering the initial scene when we're first 'introduced' to the 'character'.

Sebastian's nipples are also fake in the show. The actor refused to get Tommy's nipple piercings, which Pamela is seen biting at in one of their most iconic photos.

That photo was later recreated by Sebastian and Lily for the promotion of the series, with the snap going viral because of its eerie accuracy.
