Paper Christmas Tree

This fun and easy Christmas tree craft is also a shapes learning activity for young kids. It can also be modified into a group or class activity where kids get to create and decorate a bigger paper tree together.

Supplies Needed

  • Green construction paper
  • Brown construction paper
  • Paper in various colors
  • Glue
  • Scissors
  • Pencil
  • Glitter glue, puffy paint, sequins, small paper shapes, buttons, ribbons, etc.

STEPS

STEP 1 Paper Christmas Tree

1Cut three green triangles.

Cut 3 to 4 triangles of increasing size from green construction paper.

STEP 2 Paper Christmas Tree

2Glue the triangles together.

Glue the triangles together to form a Christmas tree. Place the largest triangle at the bottom. Next, glue the middle-sized triangle near the top of the large triangle. Lastly, glue the small triangle near the top of the middle-sized triangle.

STEP 3 Paper Christmas Tree

3Make a tree trunk.

Cut a tall rectangle from brown construction paper to make the tree trunk.

Glue the tree trunk at the back of the tree, positioning it near the bottom.

STEP 4 Paper Christmas Tree

4Cut out shapes.

For the tree's trimmings, cut out circles, bows, stars, candy canes, and other shapes from different colors of paper.

STEP 5a Paper Christmas Tree

5Decorate the shapes.

There are so many ways to decorate the shapes into festive Christmas trimmings. Some ideas are described below.

a.) Draw patterns and shapes - use crayons or colored markers to make stripes, dots, lines, patterns or small shapes.

b.) Fill with glitter - put some white glue and spread to cover the entire shape. Sprinkle glitter on the entire shape. You can use a paint brush to spread the glitter more evenly.

c.) Make glitter glue or puffy paint lines - use glitter glue or puffy paint to make textured lines and small shapes.

d.) Glue various materials - glue a variety of decorative materials like sequins, beads, small buttons, ribbons, small paper or foam shapes, plastic gems, rhinestones, tiny pompoms, rickrack, washi tape, lace, and other notions.

STEP 6 Paper Christmas Tree

6Decorate the tree.

Allow your Christmas trimmings to dry thoroughly before gluing or taping them onto your paper tree.
