‘Paris Is Burning’ By Maddie Shepherd February 16, 2020 LGBTQ

The documentary Paris Is Burning covers the Harlem ballroom scene of the ’80s. The film showcases the houses—which mostly consisted of LGBTQ people of color—that formed around the most “legendary” performers, like Angie Xtravaganza and Willi Ninja. Though it might have some structural imperfections—like a non-participant director who delayed in paying the film’s low-income subjects—Paris Is Burning provides an all-too-rare platform for the under-amplified voices that continue to indelibly shape widespread culture.
