slk2011 S My insurance co. says if the SLK300/350 has this feature, I can get another discount off my rate. Does anyone know if the 300's or 350's come with this? I have no idea what it even is. Sort by Oldest first Oldest first Newest first Most reactions #2 · Feb 18, 2011 I use one on my wife all the time it's called a gin and tonic. Works every time!!! #3 · Feb 18, 2011 stuff like starter kill #4 · Feb 18, 2011 I would say yes. Without the proper key the car can not be started. The key contains a chip that must match the code in the cars starting system for the starterto work and the car to run. #5 · Feb 18, 2011 Can't you provide the VIN to your insurance company and they can tell whether it has it or not, I've never had an insurance agent asked me what I have on my car. Anyway, most modern car has it, BMW, MB, Porsche, Lexus, etc. #7 · Feb 18, 2011 Don't have a particular VIN in mind yet....my agent was just asking about the car in general, so she can give me a quote. Again, for some strange reason, the SLK300 is about $20 more expensive per month than an SLK350. This is from Allstate. If you have a little light that says passenger airbag off on your dash then you have it. which is like every u.s. slk 171 body style. so yea you have it. It turns the passenger airbag off if no one is sitting in it. #10 · Feb 18, 2011 To me that sounds like a car tracker with the ability to remotely kill the engine? An active disabling device could be something like this ;) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_XhHJcQcpgM Without them being clearer it could be lots of things.... #11 · Feb 18, 2011 I'm with Valkirk here - both my SLK and C series are fitted with Trackers with remote shutdown. Both modules are well hidden, I found 'em by accident! :p I get a reduction in insurance rates that's on par with the cost of the subscription to Tracker. #12 · Feb 18, 2011 I wonder if MBrace would qualify as this disabling device? We've been told that they can disable the ignition. Just something to ponder about. Enjoy, Dave #13 · Feb 18, 2011 I believe by passive they mean some device that doesn't need any intervention to function. I would label the remote shutdown as an active disabling device while the chip in the key is a passive device. Googling, I found this definition here: 20. Anti-theft passive disabling device A device which helps prevent vandalism to or theft of a motor vehicle or its contents. A passive anti-theft device is one, which arms itself automatically when a vehicle is parked. #15 · Feb 18, 2011 I was pleasantly surprised how little it cost me to insure my 06 280. Must be reflective of my clean driving record and the fact that I am half way to being an antique..... #16 · Feb 18, 2011 I wondered alot about why the rates were so low. I got the car 4 months ago (was 24 at the time) and had 1 ticket on my record from 2 1/2 years ago. Still very low. I almost fell out my chair when I got the rate and felt like doing a dance... a (?) banana dance? lol :bannana::bannana::bannana: Show more replies 0 Reply Status Not open for further replies.
