Patrick Aloysius Ewing (born August 5, 1962 in Kingston, Jamaica; pronounced PA-TRIK ah-LOY-shus YOO-ing), also known as Pat Ewing, is a Jamaican-American retired NBA basketball player. He is originally from the nation of Jamaica, not Jamaica, Queens. He is an 11 time NBA All-Star. He was inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame in 2008.[1] His jersey number 33 was retired by the New York Knicks. He is currently an assistant coach for the Orlando Magic. Ewing is considered one of the greatest centers in the game's history and one of the greatest players who did not win an NBA championship during their career. However, he did win an NCAA championship in 1984 as a member of the Georgetown Hoyas, and this team is generally regarded as one of the greatest college men's basketball teams of all time. Furthermore, Ewing is considered one of the greatest college players of all time. He was nicknamed Big Pat and Hoya Destroya. Ewing's Knicks played Michael Jordan's Chicago Bulls four different times in the playoffs; 1989, 1991, 1992, and 1993. Ewing's son, Patrick Ewing, Jr., also briefly played in the NBA.
