Red pecan shells are brought in directly from farmers in southern New Mexico and are a great way to celebrate New Mexico agriculture in style. Pecan shells are a great alternative to gravel in xeriscape design, as pathways, and make terrific mulch for rose beds and potted plants. Using pecan shells rather than rock can reduce evaporative moisture loss and may help keep your yard a little cooler during the hottest days of summer. Municipal projects across New Mexico are replacing volcanic rock with pecan shells because of their advantages for sustainability, and you can too!

COVERAGE CALCULATOR

Soilutions products are sold in bulk quantities measured by the cubic yard (3’x3’x3’). Our handy coverage calculator will help you easily figure out how much compost, soil, or mulch you need for a successful project. 

 

There are two easy ways to visualize a cubic yard:

1. One cubic yard will generally fill the back of a standard sized pick up truck bed. 
2. One cubic yard is equivalent to about 27 standard sized soil bags (1 cubic ft) that you would find at a nursery or home improvement store.

How to Use Coverage Calculator:

1. Start by measuring the area you want to cover. To calculate square footage, multiply width and length of your project area (Length (feet) x width (feet) = square footage).  Enter that information into the Coverage Calculator.
2. If you know your required depth, enter it into the Coverage Calculator
3. Most customers choose to round up if they are in between numbers. There is nearly always a use for a little extra soil, compost or mulch in any landscape or garden.

How to Use: - Place a 4"" layer of Pecan Much for any application that would otherwise call for colored rock, such as pathways, recreational areas and yard borders. - Add a 2-4"" to inground, raised bed gardens or in potted plants. Excellent service

Soilutions delivered much more than the pecan shells I ordered.

Antonio, the delivery technician and I noticed a problem with the load in his truck.

We immediately stopped and I foolishly hurried to get a tool from my yard and immediately did a face plant on the sidewalk. Antonio immediately came to my aid.

We finished the unloading with no problems.

Great product

I have been using pecan hulls from Soilutions for about 20 years. I usually fetch these with my pickup truck but this year I decided to have my 3 yards delivered. All went perfectly! Thank you.

For those who have not used pecan hulls, they make a wonderful weed retarding ground cover. The initial color (red/orange) is very attractive although it bleaches in our intense sun. The main benefit is that it resists wind transfer although it will move downhill when exposed to strong flows of water. Since there is some nut residue in most loads this attracts pigeons although they get tired picking though the spread material after a few weeks. Overall, a great ground cover.

pecan shell mulch delivered

The service was amazing...the mulch was delivered to a different address listed under my account (my mistake not to clarify the delivery address) but the soilutions delivery people picked up the mulch the next day and delivered it to me. In the snow and rain I must say. I thought the service was great.

Excellent Alternative

I bought the pecan shell mulch as I an older and knew it would be lighter weight to spread than conventional mulch, which it is. The photographs do not do justice to their color. It is not a strong red but a more mellow soft brown and now I appreciate it on that score as well.
