Animal Services offers humane euthanasia for owned pets suffering incurable illness and disease resulting in significantly diminished quality of life. Animal Services reserves the right to refuse service if the pet is not ill or suffering.
You can also bring a deceased animal to the Pet Adoption and Protection Center for disposal of the remains.

Euthanasia at Animal Services includes the disposal of the deceased animal. The cost is:
- $30 for animals 25 pounds and under
- $35 for animals 26 pounds to 50 lbs.
- $45 for animals 51 pounds and over
- What is the fee to dispose of a dead animal?
If your dog or cat is already deceased, you can bring the body to the Pet Adoption and Protection Center for disposal. The cost is:
- $15 for animals 25 lbs. and under
- $20 for animals 26 lbs. to 50 lbs.
- $25 for animals 51 lbs. and over
- Who performs the euthanasia?
A certified veterinary technician performs the euthanasia. The procedure is painless and the animal passes quickly without suffering.
- Can I be with my pet and take its body home after the euthanasia?
Unlike a private veterinary office, you will not be able to be with your pet during the procedure or take deceased pet with you after the procedure.
In addition, Animal Services does not provide cremation services for deceased animals. For this reason, many pet owners choose to have a private veterinarian carry out the euthanasia procedure.
