For the full article, see Pete Rose.Pete Rose, in full Peter Edward Rose, (born April 14, 1941, Cincinnati, Ohio, U.S.—died Sept. 30, 2024, Las Vegas, Nevada), U.S. baseball player. Rose began playing organized baseball at age eight. He played for the Cincinnati Reds (1963–78, 1984–86), the Philadelphia Phillies (1979–83), and the Montreal Expos (1984). His 4,256 career hits and 3,562 games played both remain all-time records. His lifetime batting average was .303. In 1989, after being investigated for allegedly betting on baseball games, including those of his own Reds, Rose was banned from the sport for life by the commissioner of baseball. In his 2004 autobiography Rose admitted to gambling on baseball. He was reinstated to the sport in 2025, eight months after his death.
