The Issue

Chromebooks have become an important part of school life, but because they connect to the internet, administrators need some way to keep students focused. The heads of my district decided to use iboss cloud Enterprise to do this. However, this annoying program keeps hindering education again and again.

To begin with, iboss randomly blocks websites based on its connection to the internet. Because the combination of school wifi and chromebooks is already quite slow, students tend to experience the startup state of iboss very often. In this state, many useful websites that are supported by the school and the district are blocked. For example, Google Classroom, which is used by the entire school and forms the basis of online assignments, is blocked because iboss feels like it. A student may randomly turn on their chromebook to work on their assignment but Classroom will be blocked. Instead of helping students stay away from being off-task, iboss directly ensures that they will not be doing their work.

Another more recent problem is a notification that pops up every time a student tries to access a website. It states that the page is blocked because of iboss, and that a student requires an override sign-in to access the site. Of course, students are not given override sign-in info because that would make iboss useless. So the students click cancel, and iboss refuses to let the page load, and no work is done. Even the chromebooks' default loading page, Google Drive, will not load because iboss requests a sign in that students can't access. This bug stopped students from doing anything at all, and it even pops up to block new tabs!

School districts need to stop using iboss. None of the students, whether they're hard-working or off-task, like iboss and what it does. It actively hinders education and learning. Please support this petition so that the students can do their work. We need to stop this threat to the education of the children who will one day live in and impact the future world.
