As a fashion and lifestyle blogger, I’ve posted over 1600+ photos on Instagram and hundreds of blog posts since I started in 2014. While it took some time to get comfortable posing for the camera, I now love getting my photo taken.

I love working with my photographers to see if we can capture a space in a new angle and new perspective. I love finding the most Instagrammable places in each city I visit. And I love sharing my photography posing tips on my blog, Instagram, and Pinterest.

Posing Ideas for Instagram Tip #1: Lay Down

Taking photos laying down can be bit tricky. You need enough space for your photographer to shoot you and you need to be in a location that makes this pose work.

My advice is to use this post for hotel room Instagram photos and blog posts. I stayed and collaborated with the Paramount Hotel last year for a Galentine’s Day photo shoot/blog post. I used the bed and these amazing flowers to style these Instagram and blog photos!

You can also use this pose if you find a super unique place that has a second level, like the Plant Shop in Capitol Hill! Thank you to the Plant Shop Seattle for allowing Holly and I to take these amazing photos. If you want to visit this incredible plant nursery, please be mindful and ask for permission. The owner typically allows iPhone only photos!

Posing Ideas for Instagram Tip #2: Sit on a curb

If you’re taking photos in the city or in the suburbs, you’ll always find a curb to sit on. Take a seat, snap a photo, and post it on Instagram! You can make your photo even more interesting if you find a vintage car to pose with!

Posing Ideas for Instagram Tip #3: Sit on the stairs

I previously mentioned using the stairs on my How to Pose Like a Fashion Blogger blog post, and I’m bringing it back for this posing ideas for Instagram blog post. Stairs add symmetrical lines to your photo and a comfortable place to sit!

Posing Ideas for Instagram Tip #4: Use props like balloons and flowers

If you’re wondering what to do with your hands in photos, holding flowers and balloons are a great solution for your Instagram photo.

In photos I’m always looking for ways to add angles – and one way to do that is to run your hands through your hair in photos. This pose is fun for a windy day and also helps give you some variety in posing for your Instagram feed.

Posing Ideas for Instagram Tip #6: Put your hands on your hip – or right above your hip

This is a go to pose I use over and over again on my Instagram. This pose is also easy to recreate for your Instagram!

Posing Ideas for Instagram Tip #7: Crouch down

Crouching down for your Instagram photo is a more advanced pose. The tip to capturing this pose is to have your photographer meet you at eye level or even below eye level to shoot you at an upward angle. A crouching down pose will not work if your photographer shoots you downward.

Posing Ideas for Instagram Tip #8: Kick Your Leg Out

This probably seems like a funny pose but kicking your leg out for your Instagram photo gives your picture some movement. It’s an easy way to create a dynamic photo and also show off your shoes!
