Picking The Right Lightsaber Color For Yourself - Ultrasabers

All Lightsaber Colors: Origins Overview

The color of a lightsaber is traditionally derived from a kyber crystal—which is itself typically associated with its own lore and significance—that generates the blade color. The more common lightsaber colors indicate an individual’s devotion to a cause or tradition upheld by countless others, while some of the more esoteric colors are linked to a particular character and reflect that person’s unique history.

In the Star Wars universe, lightsaber colors are as diverse as the warriors who wield them. The most well-known hues—blue, green, and red—represent Jedi Guardians, Jedi Consulars, and the Sith, respectively. Rarer shades include purple, famously wielded by Mace Windu; yellow, seen in the hands of Jedi Sentinels and Rey; and white, symbolizing purification, as with Ahsoka Tano’s blades.

Other recognized kyber crystal colors include cyan, orange, magenta, and even black, with the legendary Darksaber. Some wielders, especially Sith, have also harnessed synthetic crystals, producing unstable crimson sabers or other unique variations. Whether attuned to the Light or the Dark Side, each lightsaber color carries a legacy of power, purpose, and personal identity.

Choosing Kyber Crystal Colors for Your Saber

Do Jedi choose their lightsaber color, or does the Force decide? Usually, a Jedi’s kyber crystal resonates with the future wielder’s essence, determining the blade’s final hue. Luckily, you have a lot more freedom when deciding! This is a complicated subject, so what follows is merely a quick overview of the significance of lightsaber colors intended to help you figure out how to choose a lightsaber color that speaks to your sense of self.

Blue – Blue lightsabers are associated with the Jedi Guardians and their peacekeeping cause. It is not the only possible tint for a Jedi lightsaber, but it has been considered the archetypal Jedi color ever since Luke Skywalker took up his father’s saber in Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope. The holder of the blue lightsaber is an adherent of the Jedi cause and the meaning of its blue blade; they believe in peace, order, knowledge, and service to others. Notable wielders include Luke Skywalker, Obi-Wan Kenobi, and Anakin Skywalker.
