— Dr. Eggman, Sonic Colors (Wii)

Planet Wisp (プラネットウィスプ, Puranetto Wisupu?) is the fourth, fifth, or sixth Area of Sonic Colors, Sonic Colors (Nintendo DS), and Sonic Colors: Ultimate. It is the homeworld of the Wisps, which is said to have been created by Mother Wisp. The planet has been occupied by Eggman, who is reconstructing the planet for use in Egg Planet Park.

Description[]

Planet Wisp is a beautiful natural planet full of vegetation and tall trees. The Area takes place during daytime, though stars can also be seen in the sky. Planet Wisp has large amounts of factories under construction, tearing apart the original plant life and rock and replacing it with red metal.

Story[]

Having kidnapped Planet Wisp and anchored it to Egg Planet Park and its central hub of Tropical Resort on the Egg Mecha, Dr. Eggman would kidnap the local Wisps to suck the Hyper-go-on out of them and use it to fuel his Mind Control Cannon. Amongst these Wisps, Mother Wisp was included. However, Planet Wisp would still be under renovations when the time for the opening of the park was only days away.

Later, Sonic, Tails and Yacker would travel across Planet Wisp to free the Wisps from Eggman. Notably, upon their arrival on Planet Wisp, Sonic and Tails would notice the terrible industrialization of Planet Wisp's beautiful environment that Eggman's enterpises were forcing down upon the planet. Understanding furthermore thanks to Tails that Eggman was using the Wisps as an "intergalactic gasoline" for his conquest of the universe, Sonic becomes especially ticked off by Eggman's new level of callousness. Sonic and Tails also meet the native Wisps, who are confused and in panic over their planet's transformation and having been dragged across the universe. Following then some playful banter with Tails, Sonic heads out to destroy the next tractor beam generator.

Eventually, Sonic finds the local tractor beam generator, guarded by Refreshinator (or Drillinator in the DS version). Sonic proceeds to defeat the robot, shutting down the tractor beam generator in the process. After the battle, a cocky Sonic cannot help but talk triumphantly to the Refreshinator's remains (despite knowing that it cannot hear him), only to be caught in the act by Tails. Despite Sonic trying to defend himself, Tails sees through his façade, leaving Sonic feeling pretty embarrassed. The heroes would subsequently leave Planet Wisp to continue their adventure.

Boss[]

Wii[]

Main article: Refreshinator

This Area's boss is called Refreshinator. It is quite similar to Tropical Resort's boss, Rotatatron, as it resembles a one-eyed, long-armed robot climbing on a Ferris wheel. However, this boss is more difficult, with quicker attacks and circular platforms. Sonic can use Pink Spikes to stay on the platforms. Refreshinator's eye is its weak point, and can only be damaged when it is open. When the boss closes its eye, it fires lasers in several directions that rotate around the wheel, causing the platforms to spin. It usually takes four hits to defeat Refreshinator, but it can be defeated in two hits using Pink Spikes.

Nintendo DS[]

Main article: Drillinator

On the Nintendo DS, the boss is a variation of Globotron called Drillinator. It has two drills that spin around on its arms. It can also launch the drills up in the air and make them spin around the stage. After boosting into it, Sonic will obtain the Yellow Drill Wisp, allowing him to dig beneath the main platform and hit its weak point. Drillinator will also recharge its health if Sonic doesn't act quick enough.

Eggman's Quotes[]

Unlike most other Areas in the game, no PA announcements can be heard during the Acts. However, during two cutscenes, Eggman says the following:

  • "Attention guests. If you can hear this message, you are trespassing in an area still under renovation. If you are not a robot, please return to the main park areas and ignore anything evil you might have seen here. Thank you."
  • (Quickly) "Some displacement of indigenous aliens and destruction of natural resources may occur. Eggman Enterprises not responsible."
  • "Please remember, all planets in Eggman's Incredible Interstellar Amusement Park are, as far as you know, wholly owned properties of Eggman Enterprises and its subsidiaries. All unauthorized photography, video reproduction, or shutting down of generators is strictly prohibited. Thank you."

Trivia[]

  • With hacks or glitching, players can see that Acts of Planet Wisp are actually loaded as part of one single map. Depending on which Act the player chooses to play first (For example, Act 1) any gimmicks such as ramps, Rings, Wisp Capsules, springs and enemies are not loaded for any other Acts/Segments of the map.
    • The above also applies for almost all other levels and Acts in the game with the exceptions of all three Terminal Velocity Acts and Game Land Acts.
    • Like with the other primary areas, the six Acts of Planet Wisp are configured from two individual maps. The first map consists of Acts 1 and 4 (where the starting point of Act 4 can be seen in the background of the ending of Act 1), while the second map consists of Act 6. Act 2 takes place within the first 2D section of Act 1, Act 3 continues through the rest of Act 1 where Act 2 ended, and Act 5 takes place within the first 2D section of Act 6.
  • This planet is similar to the Little Planet, as they were both being cyber-formed.
  • The music of Act 2 has a slower tone that that sounds similar to Sonic the Hedgehog CD's past themes.
    • After two minutes and thirty-one seconds, the music of Act 1 hits an acciaccatura/grace note.
  • This is the only Area in Sonic Colors that does not have another Area having the same first letter as this one (Tropical Resort and Terminal Velocity; Sweet Mountain and Starlight Carnival; Aquarium Park and Asteroid Coaster).
  • This and Terminal Velocity are the only Areas where there are no PA announcements playing during the Acts.
  • In the Wii version of Sonic Colors, the Yellow Drill is never used on Planet Wisp, while in the Nintendo DS version it appears in all three Acts (Acts 1 and 2 and the fight with Drillinator). Thus, this is one of the three Areas (the others being Starlight Carnival and Asteroid Coaster) that doesn't use the Yellow Wisp in the Wii version.
  • In Sonic Colors: Ultimate, this Area will only have the original versions of the songs that played in these Acts, unless the Digital Deluxe edition is purchased.
