Galarian Yamask and Runerigus in Pokémon Go explained

Galarian Yamask made its first appearance in Pokémon Sword and Shield as one of the original 14 Galar variants, which are Pokémon from previous generations that have a different appearance and typing in the Galar regions.

Regional variants made their first appearance in Gen 7 with the Alolan Pokémon.

Unlike a typical Gen 5 Yamask, Galarian Yamask is a joint ground and ghost-type Pokémon. It also evolves into the Gen 8 Pokémon Runerigus, instead of Cofagrigus.

Runerigus is also a ground and ghost-type Pokémon that appears to be constructed out of abandoned runestones.

A Gen 5 Yamask will evolve into a Cofagrigus.

How to catch a Galarian Yamask in Pokémon Go

The easiest way to catch a Galarian Yanmask in Pokémon Go is to complete the Special Research quest, A Spooky Message Unmasked.

By doing so you'll earn an encounter with a Galarian Yamask, which you can have as your Buddy to collect more Yamask candy if needed and, eventually, evolve into a Runerigus.

It's important to note that A Spooky Message Unmasked was released as part of the 2020 Halloween event, so, if you didn't log into Pokémon Go during this event or made your account afterwards, there's a chance you'll be unable to access this quest.

How to evolve Galarian Yamask into Runerigus in Pokémon Go

After you've caught a Galarian Yamask in Pokémon Go, you'll most likely want to evolve it into a Runerigus. If you've played Pokémon Sword or Shield (or both), then you'll know that this can be quite an interesting process and Pokémon Go is no different.

To evolve Galarian Yamask into Runerigus you need 50 Yasmask candy and compete in 10 raids.

If you want a Runerigus you need to evolve a Galarian Yamask.

Meeting the raid requirement will, depending on whether you wish to purchase additional raid passes, may take you between five to 10 days.

You can, however, purchase additional raid passes using PokéCoin or by completing certain Special Research tasks. It's also important to remember that you can purchase Remote Raid passes, which will allow you to compete in raids from the comfort of your own home.

We recommend targeting one-star raids, because it will ensure an easy victory, allowing you to reach your Runerigus goal.

The Pokémon Pokopia Celebration event has brought new Ditto disguises and costume Pokémon. Don't forget about the Pressure Rising Special Research quest. There's a lot to do in Pokémon Go outside of the current event! From the Go Battle League, Remote Trading, PokéStop Showcase, Routes and Max Battles. Don't forget to catch rare Pokémon while you're at it.
