Gift Pokémon
Like previous games, there are a variety of points within the game where you get given a Pokémon. These Pokémon for the most part take your ID and Number but are yours to keep. You need to have a space in your party in order to receive these Pokémon.
#175 Togepi The first gift Pokémon you get given is an Egg of Togepi. This Egg is the Mysterious Egg you get sent to collect at the start. After you beat Falkner at the Violet Gym, you will get a call stating that Professor Elm's aide has the Egg for you. He is in Violet City's PokéMart. Hatch the egg and you will quickly discover that the Togepi also has one of Togepi's Egg moves; Extrasensory

#021 Spearow The next gift Pokémon is technically not a gift Pokémon. In the gate in the north of Goldenrod, you'll meet the Gate Keeper Randy. He will ask you if you can take his Spearow with Mail attached to his friend in Route 31. Accept and he'll give you the Spearow. If you take the Spearow to his friend, he will take the Spearow from you.
| | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
#133 Eevee The next gift Pokémon you'll likely get is Eevee. After bumping into Bill in Ecruteak City, he will return to his house in Goldenrod. Visit him there and he will offer you the Eevee he used to test the WiFi system that he just set up. This Eevee is at Level 5 but does not contain anything else special.
| | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Special Eggs In Violet City, you can receive 1 of 3 eggs by giving a special Secret Code. The code varies based on your Trainer ID.
| ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
#213 Shuckle After you have beaten Chuck in the Cianwood Gym, go to the south-west house of Cianwood City where you will find a trainer whom is worried somebody will steal his Shuckle. He offers it to you for you to look after his Shuckle. It is holding a Berry Juice. As it isn't your Pokémon, the OT, ID & Nickname will not be of your choosing and will match the trainer and not you.
| | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
#072 Tentacool If you're in Cianwood City and have released or transferred all but 1 of your Pokémon and lack Surf or Fly on them, you'll be given this Special Level 15 Tentacool. This Tentacool allows for you to leave the island.
| | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
#236 Tyrogue If you go into the middle entrance of Mt. Mortar and follow the path all the way down to the basement, you will soon discover the Karate King, the former leader of the Fighting Dojo in Saffron, is there training in seclusion. He will challenge you to a battle and if you win, he will give you a Level 10 Tyrogue.
| | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
#147 Dratini After you have defeated Clair in the Blackthorn Gym, she will send you on a quest into the Dragon.s Den. Deep inside the den you will discover a building with the elders. These Elders will ask you questions about how you raise your Pokémon. After the questions are answered, he will give you a Dratini. If you answer his questions with the compassionate responses, the Dratini will know the special move; ExtremeSpeed. If you don't answer with those responses, it will just know its basic moves
| | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
#001 Bulbasaur, #004 Charmander & #007 Squirtle - "Kanto Starters" The second batch of Starters you will find are the Pokémon whom trainers start with when they begin the journey in Kanto. In Heart Gold & Soul Silver, these Pokémon are obtained by visiting Professor Oak after you have obtained all 16 Badges and defeating Red. He will compliment you on your success and provide you one of these Pokémon. As with all starters, they will be at Level 5.
| | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
#252 Treecko, #255 Torchic & #258 Mudkip - "Hoenn Starters" The third & final batch of Starters you will find are the Pokémon whom trainers start with when they begin the journey in Hoenn. In Heart Gold & Soul Silver, these Pokémon are obtained by visiting Steven Stone in Silph Co. in Saffron City after you have defeated Red. He will compliment you, ask you what colour stone you'd pick and then provide you one of these Pokémon based on the colour. As with all starters, they will be at Level 5.
