Pokemon Legends: Arceus - How To Evolve Gligar - Game Rant

Despite being a Generation 8 Pokemon game, Pokemon Legends: Arceus' Hisui region is full of Pokemon from Kanto to Alola. Some returning Pokemon such as Sneasel have gained new regional forms in Hisui, while others have stayed the same. Hisui has also changed the way players can evolve Pokemon that could only be evolved through trade or by holding an item. One such Pokemon is Gligar, the Ground/Flying-type Fly Scorpion from the Johto region.

Gligar gained an evolution in Pokemon Diamond/Pearl: Gliscor. Except for Pokemon Legends: Arceus, Gligar would evolve into Gliscor if it was holding a certain evolution item, and then leveled up at night. Thanks to some gameplay changes, Gligar's evolution method has been altered, but some players may find its new way of evolving much easier this time around.

Gligar's Habitat

Gligar is not readily available at the start of Pokemon Legends: Arceus. Players will need to have calmed the Noble Pokemon of Obisidian Fieldlands, Crimson Mirelands, and Cobalt Coastlands. After this, they will be directed to Coronet Highlands, which is one out of two regions where Gligar lives.

After quelling the Noble Electrode, players will then be sent to Alabaster Icelands. This is the second place players can find Gligar.

More specifically, Gligar lives in these areas of Coronet Highlands and Alabaster Icelands:

  • Coronet Highlands
    • Clamberclaw Cliffs
    • Celestica Ruins
    • Cloudcap Pass
    • Primeval Grotto
  • Alabaster Icelands
    • Glacier Terrace
    • Arena's Approach

If players are lucky, they may run into an Alpha Gligar or they can try and catch the Alpha Gliscor in the Primeval Grotto.

Gligar is a fairly common Pokemon, but it has more habitats in Coronet Highlands than it does Alabaster Icelands. The Gligar in the Coronet Highlands will be at a lower level than those in the Alabster Icelands, but it doesn't have to be a specific level to evolve.

Gligar is an aggressive Pokemon, so if it spots someone nearby, it will attack. It's easier to catch Pokemon by sneaking up on them, but if Gligar's alerted, it may be better to just battle and weaken it.

Evolving Gligar

Since Gligar is a common Pokemon, it shouldn't take long to get its Pokedex Research Level to 10. Once Gligar's been caught, the next step is getting a Razor Fang.

This item can be bought at the Trading Post for 1,400 Merit Points (MP). Do not accidentally buy the Razor Claw instead of the Razor Fang. These two items sound similar, but the Razor Claw is used for evolving Sneasel into Weavile or Sneasler.

Use the Razor Fang on Gligar at night to evolve it into Gliscor. Since Pokemon can't hold items in Pokemon Legends: Arceus, held items like the Razor Fang will instead work the same as evolution stones.

Pokemon Legends: Arceus is available now on Nintendo Switch.
